Central Park Tower, aka 217 West 57th Street, has finally reached its long-awaited milestone. Construction workers have reached top of the reinforced concrete structure, while work on the reflective glass curtain wall is closing in on the upper floors of what is now the tallest residential building in New York and the highest roof in the Western Hemisphere. The 1,550-foot tall reinforced concrete skyscraper is designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill and developed by Extell, which is expecting a $4 billion sellout. The Nordstrom retail component is getting ready for its debut next month.
Façade work is wrapping up on the Verizon Tech Executive Education Center and Graduate Hotel on Roosevelt Island. The 18-story structure is designed by Snohetta and includes an adjacent four-story wing. Graduate Hotels will be the hotel operator of the project, which will have 196 rooms and amenities such as event spaces, a rooftop bar, a restaurant, a cafe, and four 50- to 75-seat classrooms. Skidmore, Owings & Merrill is the master planner of the campus, while Hudson Companies, Related Companies, and Brookfield are developing the entire Cornell Tech satellite campus.
One Vanderbilt has reached a huge milestone as construction has topped out on the supertall commercial skyscraper’s tiered steel crown. Workers will soon begin assembly of the 100-foot-tall architectural spire, which will bring the project’s total height to 1,401 feet. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by SL Green, the 77-story Midtown East tower will have a three-story indoor and outdoor public observatory situated at 1,020 feet above street level. Construction of the spire could conceivably finish before the end of the week, given the tremendous speed with which One Vanderbilt has shot upward into the sky.
YIMBY has new photographs of the completed exterior of 250 West 81st Street, as well as interior views of the amenities at the 18-story Upper West Side condominium building. Designed by Robert A. M. Stern Architects with Hill West Architects as the architect of record, Alchemy Properties is the developer of the site, and Stribling Marketing Associates is managing sales for the building’s 31 condominiums, which average 2,700 square feet apiece. Sales are in partnership with Alchemy Properties and Stribling Marketing Associates.
The foundations are taking shape at 148 East 78th Street on the Upper East Side, where a 205-foot-tall residential building is set to rise. Located at the corner of East 78th Street and Lexington Avenue, the structure is designed by Ismael Leyva Architects and developed by Midwood Management Corp. Construction workers are currently forming the reinforced concrete perimeter walls for the condominium project, which will yield 26 residences averaging 2,600 square feet each.
