The Lower East Side is in the midst of a new era of transformation. The Streit’s Matzo Factory has moved, construction of Essex Crossing is humming along, a neighborhood-wide beautification project should reach its goal this summer, and the Lowline is moving forward. The Houston Street corner opposite an iconic deli is also getting a new neighbor, and now there’s a new look at that project.
Last month, the Moinian Group announced that they were planning a condo project at 220 11th Avenue that had been designed by the late, renowned Zaha Hadid. Now, the firm has filed new building applications for the 11-story development in Chelsea.
Booming Brooklyn’s Boerum Hill neighborhood is closer to seeing another development come to fruition. Exterior work is nearing completion at the Boerum, located at 265 State Street (a.k.a. 140 Schermerhorn Street).
Midwood’s Orthodox community continues to grow, and developers keep searching for property along the neighborhood’s main streets, which are generously zoned. Last week, one of those developers filed plans to erect a seven-story apartment building at 1266 Ocean Parkway, between Avenues L and M.
North Williamsburg is one step closer to getting its first new office building in half a century. Yesterday, the full City Council approved a special permit with a new kind of industrial and commercial zoning for the eight-story project at 25 Kent Avenue.
