Touring the Under Construction Condo Conversion at 212 Fifth Avenue, Flatiron District

The Neo-Gothic high-rise at 212 Fifth Avenue has occupied a wedge-shaped plot just north of Madison Square Park since 1912. It once held furniture and garment manufacturers, who had their offices on the upper floors and massive showrooms on the lower ones. Now, Madison and Thor Equities are converting the 24-story building to condos, and they’re restoring the landmarked limestone facade and cornices in the process. YIMBY recently toured the property and got a close-up look at the restoration.

Loft-Style Apartments To Occupy Former Paragon Paint Factory In Long Island City

Back in June, YIMBY brought you news of a 28-story mixed-use tower planned for the site of the former Paragon Paint Factory at 45-40 Vernon Boulevard in the Hunters Point section of Long Island City. We know its 295 feet will shine and thanks to an interview with SHoP principal architect Gregg Pasquarelli, we know more about what will become of the factory building itself, which will connect to the new tower.

Central Harlem hasn’t seen quite as much development as the area southeast of 125th Street, but developers have finally started paying attention to the quiet and transit-rich blocks next to the City College campus. The latest project headed to the neighborhood is an 11-story residential building at 308 West 133rd Street, between St. Nicholas Avenue and Frederick Douglass Boulevard.

Affordable housing may grow on two empty lots near the elevated subway tracks in Longwood, a neighborhood in the southeastern Bronx. Plans were filed yesterday to erect a seven-story apartment building at 917 Westchester Avenue and a six-story one at 940 Rogers Place, around the corner from the Intervale Avenue stop on the 2 and 5 trains.

In September, developer Moshe Braver filed to expand a 19th century warehouse at 296 Wythe Avenue in Williamsburg into a six-story, mixed-use building. Now YIMBY has a rendering for the project, which is being designed by Karl Fischer.

Pacific Park’s 17-Story Condo Tops Out at 550 Vanderbilt Avenue

It’s been 12 long years since the Pacific Park megaproject was first announced as Atlantic Yards, and the Prospect Heights development hit a major milestone yesterday with the topping out of 550 Vanderbilt Avenue, a 17-story condo building. A seven-story residential building is coming to the heart of East Williamsburg, on Montrose Avenue between Humboldt Street and Avenue of Puerto Rico. New building applications were filed Tuesday for the project at 172 Montrose Avenue, a block and a half from the Montrose Avenue L stop.
