Permits Filed for Van Sinderen Plaza, 130-Unit, Two-Building Project in East New York

The city is about to rezone the northeastern swath of East New York around Broadway Junction, but development is still brewing at the neighborhood’s far-flung edges. MacQuesten Development has filed plans for a sizable affordable project called Van Sinderen Plaza in the New Lots section of the hood, beneath the elevated L train tracks and next to the border with Brownsville.

A charming little townhouse amongst much larger neighbors on one of Manhattan’s great boulevards will stay just that, for the time being. On Tuesday, the Landmarks Preservation Commission decided not to approve proposed additions to 890 Park Avenue, located on the west side of the street between East 78th Street and East 79th Street, in the Upper East Side Historic District.

YIMBY has brought you continual updates on the progress of Extell’s 217 West 57th Street, a.k.a. Nordstrom Tower (officially Central Park Tower), and now we have the first photos of what the facade for the building will actually look like, as well as an update on progress. The image comes from an anonymous tipster and shows the glass that will appear over the top of the Nordstrom floors, crowning the retail podium in a series of undulating curves, and demarcating the boundary between the pedestrian realm and the supertall that will cantilever up above.
