Hunts Point was once the byword for disinvestment and abandonment, but the peninsula along the South Bronx waterfront is finally beginning to see some new growth. One of the neighborhood’s empty lots, at 629 Faile Street, may soon sprout two new four-story apartment buildings.
Brookland Capital is building more than 50 rental and condo projects throughout Brooklyn, and now they’re expanding south into Flatbush with this attractive seven-story apartment building at 88-92 Linden Boulevard, between Bedford and Rogers Avenues.
The proposed East New York rezoning is already drawing new development to the area near Broadway Junction, like a new hotel planned at 100 New Jersey Avenue in the shadow of the elevated J train tracks in Cypress Hills, East New York’s northern section.
Renderings have been revealed of Amirian Group’s and Bridgeton Holding’s planned two-building residential development, dubbed Thirteen East + West, at 436 & 442 East 13th Street, in the East Village. At both sites, six-story, six-unit residential buildings were filed with the DOB last December, both measuring a spacious 10,000 square feet. Thomas Vail (of Vail Associates Architects) is designing. The existing two-story buildings were approved for demolition in April.
The Stonewall Inn, landmark of the LGBT movement, is a step closer to becoming an actual landmark. On Tuesday, the Landmarks Preservation Commission voted to schedule (or calendar, in LPC speak) a public hearing to designate the bar at 51-53 Christopher Street as an individual landmark. That hearing will take place on Tuesday, June 23.
