When Robert Moses built the Cross-Bronx Expressway half a century ago, he demolished dozens of large apartment buildings in East Tremont to make way for the six-lane highway. It’s taken the blocks nearby decades to recover, but they are finally seeing new life, in the form of large affordable apartment buildings and small market-rate ones. Yesterday, new building applications were filed for a six-story, market-rate apartment building at 712 East 175th Street.
An abandoned factory on the southern edge of Borough Park was demolished last year, and now new rental apartments are rising in its place. YIMBY has a look at the design for the new building at 968 60th Street, near the border with Sunset Park and Dyker Heights.
Southern Crown Heights isn’t as thick with new construction as the area north of Eastern Parkway, but new apartments are in the works on the low-slung blocks around Empire Boulevard. Last week YIMBY noticed new building applications for a seven-story residential development at 264 Sullivan Place, between Rogers and Nostrand Avenues.
Rego Park has one of the strongest rental markets in central and eastern Queens, and developers are finally starting to take notice. Last week, YIMBY spotted plans for a 12-story, mixed-use building at 63-98 Wetherole Street, a couple blocks south of Queens Boulevard.
Last fall, Alfa Development shelled out $69.6 million for four buildings at the corner of East 21st Street and Third Avenue in Gramercy. Now they’ve filed plans for a 20-story residential building at 200 East 21st Street.
