21 Greenwich Avenue Awaits Partial Demolition in the West Village

YIMBY took a quick look at the current state of 21 Greenwich Avenue. Proposals from BKSK Architects call for a renovation of the 179-year-old corner property and the construction of an attached five-story edifice that would replace an abutting one-story structure. The new building will have a mixed façade of floor-to-ceiling glass, steel details, and brick masonry. The design firm previously submitted its plans to the Landmarks Preservation Commission and is awaiting approval. Higgins Quasebarth & Partners is credited as the preservation consultant for 21 Greenwich Avenue.

Maverick’s Geometric Façade Panels Begin to Rise at 215 West 28th Street in Chelsea

Maverick’s distinctive charcoal and white curtain wall panels are rising up the 210-foot-tall residential project at 215 West 28th Street in Chelsea. Located between Seventh Avenue and Eighth Avenue, the development consists of an identical pair of topped-out, 20-story buildings. The project, which is alternately addressed as 215-219 West 28th Street and 221-229 West 28th Street, is designed by DXA Architects and developed by HAP Investments and will yield more than 300,000 square feet.

1245 Broadway’s Concrete Superstructure Continues to Climb in NoMad

The reinforced concrete superstructure of 1245 Broadway, a 23-story office building from Skidmore Owings and Merrill, is steadily rising in NoMad. Co-developed by GDSNY and Sweden-based Klovern, the 318-foot-tall structure will bring 200,000 square feet of commercial space to the booming neighborhood. StructureTech NY and Triton Construction are in charge of construction, and CBRE began leasing the building’s class A office space in late 2019.

Demolition work is moving along on 1568 Broadway, a 30-year-old, 470-foot-tall tower in Times Square that formerly housed the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton. Nearly 75 percent of the building will be razed to create a new 46-story mixed-use property dubbed TSX Broadway. Designed by PBDW Architects, Mancini Duffy, and Perkins Eastman, and developed by L&L Holding CompanyMaefield Development, and Fortress Investment Group, the site sits in the heart of Times Square at the corner of Seventh Avenue and West 47th Street.

Central Park Tower’s Glass Curtain Wall Approaches its 1,550-Foot Parapet, in Midtown

Exterior work on Extell‘s Central Park Tower is nearing the finish line. The reflective glass curtain wall is approaching the parapet of the 1,550-foot-tall skyscraper, which is also addressed 217 West 57th Street. Designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill, the supertall has the highest roof level of any building in the Western Hemisphere and will yield 179 residences, with Extell projecting a $4 billion sellout.
