A New York City icon is back on track to become a permanent fixture. On Thursday, the Landmarks Preservation Commission began the process of clearing its 95-item backlog and the day’s session included the items from Queens, the city’s largest borough by area. Among those items was the Pepsi-Cola sign. Almost nobody testified against designating it a landmark.

Work Nears Finish Line at 5 Franklin Place in Tribeca

The development saga at 5 Franklin Place is finally reaching its conclusion, and since YIMBY’s last update on the project from September of 2014, progress has been significant. The latest photos from Tectonic show that cladding and window installation are both complete, although interior work appears to be ongoing. The site had several conceptual designs before it was acquired by El Ad Group after the recession, and ODA designed the final product, which stands 20 stories tall and has 53 condominiums.
