A long vacant piece of Staten Island is finally seeing new life, now that plans have been filed for 11 townhouses along a city-owned stretch of Bloomingdale Road in Charleston, a small neighborhood at the southwestern edge of the island.
The site of a recent large-scale fire on Williamsburg’s northern waterfront — the burned-down warehouse located at 5 North 11th Street — may be on the path for redevelopment, or so the property’s owner hopes. Crain’s Business reports the property — likely valued at $500 million — boasts roughly 600,000 square feet of commercial air rights, and could be rezoned for residential if approved by city council, however earlier prospects to designate the land as park space may foil any redevelopment prospects.
Construction permits have revealed plans for LGS Partners’ eight-story, 12-unit mixed-use building measuring 12,830 square feet at the vacant lot of 44 East 132nd Street, in northern East Harlem. It will include a community facility spanning 2,280 square feet. C3D Architecture is the architect of record, and initial permits were filed over the summer of 2014.
