Views Revealed From Top Of 69-Story Urban Ready Living Harborside Tower, Jersey City

Last week, YIMBY reported on the topping-out of the 69-story, 763-unit mixed-use tower under construction at 200 Greene Street, in Jersey City’s waterfront district, and now we can share photos of the view from the top of the 713-foot-tall tower. Dubbed URL Harborside, two more towers are planned, which will bring the site’s total number of apartments to 2,358. The first building will open for leasing at the end of 2016, according to developers Mack-Cali Realty Corporation and Ironstate Development Company.

Construction Update: 785 Dekalb Avenue, Bed-Stuy

Last year, Brownstoner spotted a space-age construction rendering for a six-story residential building at 785 Dekalb Avenue between Tompkins and Throop Avenues in Bed-Stuy. While that design—which featured a slanted porthole—didn’t make the cut, construction is finally nearing the finish line.

45 East 22nd Street Quickly Climbing Into Midtown South Skyline

Out of all the towers currently under construction in Manhattan, the most significantly relative to its surrounding neighborhood is likely 45 East 22nd Street. The Kohn Pedersen Fox-designed building will eventually stand 777 feet tall, but it’s already poking above the local concrete jungle, and its sloped cantilever is also now obvious, per the latest from Tectonic.

The Third Avenue Elevated once ran through East Tremont, linking it with Manhattan all the way down to Chatham Square, in what is now Chinatown. The decaying wooden house at 772 East 182nd Street was likely built around the same time as the elevated, in the first few years of the 20th century. After the city suspended the elevated service in the 1950s and ’60s, the area began to slide into abandonment and poverty. But the neighborhood is slowly rebounding with the arrival of small, market-rate construction projects. Yesterday, new building applications were filed for a seven-story, 18-unit development that would replace the old house at 772 East 182nd Street, just west of the Bronx Zoo.

A modern five-story apartment building is about to replace a little two-story brick townhouse at 96 16th Street, between 3rd and 4th Avenues in South Slope.

Proposed Adaptive Reuse Of Crown Heights Landmark at 1375 Dean Street Doesn’t Pass Muster With LPC

A Crown Heights landmark is still in danger of falling apart and a proposal to save it met with concern, but not approval, from the Landmarks Preservation Commission on Tuesday. The landmark in question is the George B. and Susan Elkins House at 1375 Dean Street. The current owner wants to convert the single-family structure to a four-family home, add glass enclosures on the sides, add skylights, change the attic, excavate in the cellar to give a higher ceiling height, and put on a glassy rear addition. It was the glass enclosures that really didn’t sit well with the commissioners.

Since the state re-opened applications the loft law in July, YIMBY has noticed a few filings from industrial landlords who want to legalize apartments in their illegally converted loft buildings. Yesterday we spotted one for 304 Boerum Street in East Williamsburg, where the owner is trying once again to get a new certificate of occupancy.

One of the few vacant lots left in prime Williamsburg is about to become an apartment building. New building applications were filed yesterday for a six-story, seven-unit development at 650 Metropolitan Avenue, only a block from the Lorimer stop on the L and G trains.

Yesterday, we checked in on Two Trees’ new tower at 286 Ashland Place, where construction is making rapid headway. Work seems to be moving at a similar place at 333 Schermerhorn Street, just a few blocks away, where Douglas Steiner’s 53-story project dubbed “The Hub” is now roughly two-thirds of the way to its pinnacle, per the latest from Tectonic.

The controversial redevelopment of Bushwick’s Rheingold Brewery has attracted plenty of press in recent months, but the another huge brewery complex across the street is about to get a new lease on life. A group of investors paid $33.7 million for the former Schlitz bottling plant at 95 Evergreen Avenue in January, and now they’ve released renderings of its future as offices and retail.
