Klövern and GDS Development Break Ground on 28 & 7 Office Building, at 322-326 Seventh Avenue, in Chelsea

Klövern and GDS Development recently broke ground on a new Manhattan boutique office project in Chelsea, called 28 & 7. Skidmore Owings & Merrill is the designer of the 12-story, class A office structure, which is located at 322-326 Seventh Avenue and is one of three properties that the two developers are working together on in New York City. Klövern is aiming to bring a more Scandinavian-inspired approach to the office market with higher sustainability standards and a more “human-scaled” design approach.

Hunters Point Library Opens to the Public in Long Island City

Hunters Point Library at 47-07 Center Boulevard in Long Island City is finally open. The five-story, Steven Holl Architects-designed structure features a soaring atrium with a winding circulation pattern of programs that encompass each level and concludes with a public outdoor rooftop terrace. The bright white architecturally finished concrete walls and oversized abstract windows create a bold juxtaposition with the surrounding architectural language along the East River.

Hunters Point South Towers Begin to Rise on Center Boulevard in Hunters Point, Queens

Construction is moving along on a pair of residential buildings at the Hunters Point South Towers development in Hunters Point, Queens. Workers are preparing to pour the fourth floor of what will become a 46-story, 394-unit structure at 52-41 Center Boulevard, while rebar is protruding from the site of the taller, 56-story tower at 52-03 Center Boulevard in preparation for the formation of the ground floor columns and walls. TF Cornerstone is the developer of the complex, which is designed by ODA Architecture with SLCE Architects as the architect of record.

12 East 48th Street’s Metallic Façade Panels Continue to Climb in Midtown East

12 East 48th Street‘s distinctive metallic façade panels are making their way up the northern elevation of the 31-story Midtown East structure. Arranged in a staggered pattern surrounding floor-to-ceiling windows, the bold curtain wall will create a striking contrast with the surrounding masonry-clad buildings. Located between Madison Avenue and Fifth Avenue, the slim tower is topped out and will eventually open as a 161-room Hilton Grand Vacation Hotel. The project is designed by Handel Architects and developed by Hidrock Realty.

Durst’s Sven at Queens Plaza Park Passes Halfway Mark as Façade Work Begins, in Long Island City

Queens Plaza Park’s glass façade is rapidly ascending at 27-29 Queens Plaza North in Long Island City. Construction of the curved reinforced concrete superstructure is nearing the halfway mark of the residential skyscraper, known as Sven, which will eventually stand 755 feet tall, making it the second-tallest building in Queens and the outer boroughs. The 67-story project, also addressed as 29-37 41st Avenue, is designed by Handel Architects and being developed by The Durst Organization. Selldorf Architects is in charge of interior design.
