It’s been a busy few days in the Bronx for the Department of Buildings, and the surge in new building applications across the borough probably has something to do with Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s new plan to resurrect the 421-a tax break. A non-profit working to end homelessness has filed plans for a 13-story supportive housing project at 2865 Creston Avenue, in the northwestern Bronx neighborhood of Bedford Park.
A pair of 12-story affordable rental buildings are coming to two blocks in Mount Hope, in the central Bronx. Developer Thorobird Companies is planning to construct the two buildings at 225 East 179th Street and 220 East 178th Street, a block apart between Anthony Avenue and Grand Concourse.
Alma Realty is working on two huge projects along the Astoria waterfront, and now they are venturing much farther east in the borough, to the middle-class neighborhood of Kew Gardens Hills, Queens. The Long Island City-based builder has filed plans for a seven-story residential building at 152-26 Union Turnpike, between 152nd and 153rd streets.
It’s been a few years since the city’s Economic Development Corporation announced plans to develop a 700-unit underground parking garage on Willoughby Street in Downtown Brooklyn and create a one-acre green space on top. Now, the park, Willoughby Square, is one step closer to reality, as the city prepares to demolish an office building at 217 Duffield Street, between Willoughby and Fulton streets.
