Façade work is continuing on Fashion Institute of Technology‘s ten-story New Academic Building at 220 West 28th Street in Chelsea, Manhattan. Designed by SHoP Architects, the 110,000-square-foot structure is engineered to achieve LEED Gold certification and will yield classrooms, administrative offices, review and exhibition spaces, and a student quad illuminated by skylights. Forte Construction Corp. is the general contractor for the property, which sits on a shallow plot between Seventh and Eighth Avenues on the northernmost edge of the FIT campus.

Demolition Underway at 14 Gay Street in Greenwich Village, Manhattan

Demolition is progressing on 14 Gay Street, a landmarked three-story residential building in Greenwich Village, Manhattan. Located in the Greenwich Village Historic District, the 196-year-old structure was deemed at risk of imminent collapse by the city and was ordered to be immediately demolished. The current owner, Nazarian Property Group under the 14 Gay Street LLC, also owns the adjacent 16 Gay Street to the north and purchased both buildings along with three other nearby sites for around $12 million last April. Howard I. Shapiro & Associates is listed as the applicant of record for demolition permits that were recently filed for the property, which is located between Waverly Place and Christopher Street.

Gemma Gramercy’s Façade Nears Completion at 202 East 23rd Street in Gramercy, Manhattan

Façade installation is nearing completion on Gemma Gramercy, a 20-story residential building at 202 East 23rd Street in Gramercy Park, Manhattan. Designed by Hill West Architects and developed by SMA Equities, the 233-foot-tall structure will span 95,000 square feet and yield 108 rental units in studio to two-bedroom layouts with marketing by REAL New York. Twenty-eight of the apartments will be designated for affordable housing. KSK Construction Group is the general contractor for the project, which is located at the corner of East 23rd Street and Third Avenue on the border with Kips Bay. The property is being constructed to Passive House standards.

Designed by Issac & Stern Architects and developed by Urban Development Partners, the 145-foot-tall structure yields 54 condominium units in one- to four-bedroom layouts with interiors by Paris Forino. Douglas Elliman Development Marketing‘s Eklund Gomes Team is leading sales and marketing for the homes with prices ranging from $1.2 to more than $6 million. Ross Associates is the general contractor for the property, which is located at corner of East 21st Street and Second Avenue.

New Rendering Released for Project Commodore Supertall at 175 Park Avenue in Midtown East, Manhattan

An updated rendering has been released for Project Commodore, an approved 85-story supertall skyscraper at 175 Park Avenue in Midtown East. Designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill and developed by RXR Realty and TF Cornerstone, the 1,575-foot-tall mixed-use tower will replace the Hyatt Grand Central New York hotel and yield 2.1 million square feet of Class A office space, 500 Hyatt hotel rooms spread across 453,000 square feet on the upper floors, and 10,000 square feet of retail space on the ground, cellar, and second levels. The development will also include a 25,000-square-foot elevated public plaza surrounding the tower and abutting the adjacent Grand Central Terminal. If built to its current scope, Project Commodore will also wrest the title of tallest building in the western hemisphere by roof height from Central Park Tower. AECOM Tishman is going to be the general contractor and RWDI Inc. is the structural engineer.
