The Department of City Planning recently signed off on an Environmental Assessment Statement to facilitate the construction of a new five-story mixed-use building at 252 Victory Boulevard in Tompkinsville, Staten Island.
Central Park Tower‘s crown lights began to illuminate for the first time this past weekend, an exciting harbinger of the imminent full completion of the 1,550-foot Midtown supertall. Located at 217 West 57th Street on Billionaires’ Row, the tower is designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill and developed by Extell and stands as the tallest structure by roof height in the Western Hemisphere and the tallest residential building in the world. Corcoran Sunshine and Extell Marketing Group are leading sales for its 179 units and are anticipating a $4 billion sellout.
Exterior work is shaping up on 21-16 44th Drive, an eight story mixed-use building in Long Island City, Queens. Alternately addressed as 21-18 44th Drive, the structure is designed by C3D Architecture and developed by Amsterdam Hospitality and will yield a mix of ground-floor retail space, 40 hotel rooms measuring around 250 square feet each, and 29 homes averaging just under 700 square feet apiece. The site is located along 44th Drive between 21st Street and 23rd Street.
A lot has progressed at the site of 23-20 Jackson Avenue since YIMBY’s last update back in early August. The nine-story reinforced concrete superstructure quickly rose and topped out since the summer, and now the brick façade and window grid await to be revealed from behind the blue netting and metal scaffolding. Designed by KSQ Architects and developed by The Vorea Group, the property is located at the corner of Jackson Avenue and Pearson Street in Long Island City, Queens. The structure will yield 85,851 square feet with retail, offices, and a 72-room hotel operated by San Francisco-based hotelier Sonder Corp.
Construction work is ramping up for the office conversion of the 140-year-old Domino Sugar Refinery at 292 Kent Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Designed by Practice for Architecture and Urbanism (PAU) and developed by Two Trees, the project is the centerpiece of the Domino Sugar master plan by SHoP Architects and James Corner Field Operations and involves the construction of a massive barrel-vaulted glass roof atop the former factory. When complete, the structure will top out at 235 feet tall, while the interiors will be gutted and restored. Levels one through four, as well as 14 and 15 will have their ceiling spans increased, and the 16th floor will be eliminated.
