YIMBY last reported on this site in August of 2016, when two anonymous entities purchased the empty 22,640 square foot land for $33 million. The project has been shrouded in mystery regarding a potential deal with the Trader Joe’s grocery chain for 18,000 square feet of the ground floor and cellar.

The site is in a prime location for retail, with proximity to the Fulton Street Station, the World Trade Center’s Oculus transit hub, as well as several other subway stops for just about every subway line that runs through Manhattan. The site is right on the southern tip of Steven Flanders Square, home to City Hall.
