Construction at 196 Orchard Street on the Lower East Side of Manhattan has reached a new milestone, with the installation of the building’s glazed-brick façade nearing completion. The 11-story residential building stands above Houston Street, beside Katz Delicatessen. It reaches a height of 120 feet, thanks to the purchase of air rights from the deli.
Permits have been filed for a new building at 505 Union Avenue, in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The site is three blocks away from the Metropolitan Avenue subway station, serviced by the G and L trains. Davbel Property LLC will be responsible for the development.
After covering 220 Central Park South and 111 West 57th Street, it’s time we cover the tallest of the three skyscrapers under construction on Midtown’s billionaire’s alley. 217 West 57th Street is currently on track to reach 1,550 feet above the ground. Once complete, it will be the tallest residential skyscraper in the country and second tallest tower in the country. Extell Development is responsible for the project.
Permits have been filed for a seven-story mixed use building at 37-01 30th Street in Astoria, Queens. The site is ten blocks away from the Astoria Boulevard subway station, serviced by the N and W trains. While the project is not close to any new development, it is on a retail-rich avenue, which includes several national-brand stores. An anonymous LLC is behind the applications.
Recent new development in Downtown Brooklyn has been on a historic scale, having been ranked among the most significant growth spurts for a single neighborhood in the city’s history. Plans to build a 29-story residential tower at 550 Clinton Avenue in Clinton Hill will spread the boom slightly further out. YIMBY reported on the design in January of this year when it was first proposed to the Landmark Preservation Commission (LPC). After receiving feedback, its architect Morris Adjmi is returning to the LPC with what may be the final design.
