Foundation Work Underway for Disney’s Headquarters at Four Hudson Square in Hudson Square, Manhattan

Foundation work is underway for Disney’s 1.2 million-square-foot headquarters at 137 Varick Street in Hudson Square. Alternately addressed as Four Hudson Square, the 22-story, 320-foot-tall structure is designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and is being developed in partnership with Silverstein Properties. Disney purchased the parcel from Trinity Church Real Estate for $650 million, and Skanska was responsible for the demolition of four structures that wrapped up last summer. Lendlease is in charge of constructing the new headquarters, which is bound by Varick Street to the east, Spring Street to the south, Hudson Street to the west, and Vandam Street to the north.

Closings are well underway for Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill‘s 1,550-foot-tall, 131-story Central Park Tower at 217 West 57th Street. Located on Midtown‘s coveted Billionaires’ Row, this marks a major step in the final stages of the world’s tallest residential building, which is also the tallest structure in the Western Hemisphere by roof height. Extell is developing the project with an expected $4 billion sellout on the 179 units marketed by Corcoran Sunshine and Extell Marketing Group.

Fifteen Laight Street’s Office Conversion and Expansion Nears Completion in Tribeca, Manhattan

Work is wrapping up on Fifteen Laight Street, a Class A office conversion and expansion in Tribeca. Designed by Gensler and developed by the Vanbarton Group, the $141 million project involved the addition of two floors atop the former six-story structure, as well as a complete recladding of its exterior with a modern façade of floor-to-ceiling glass and dark metal paneling. The 115,000-square-foot building, which once served as the home of the Tribeca Film Festival, is located between Laight Street and the triangular-shaped Albert Capsouto Park to the north, Varick Street to the south, and the narrow St. Johns Lane to the east. MFS Engineers & Surveyor is the structural engineer overseeing the project.

Construction is wrapping up on 7 West 57th Street, Solow Realty & Development Group‘s 19-story mixed-use residential project in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Hill West Architects with Vidaris as the envelope consultant, the 237-foot-tall structure is located between Fifth and Sixth Avenues on a narrow parcel to the east of developer’s 50-story SOM-designed property at 9 West 57th Street. Solow purchased the site of 7 West 57th Street 15 years ago for $25,550,000.

Tiffany & Company’s Flagship Expansion Tops Out at 727 Fifth Avenue in Midtown, Manhattan

Construction has topped out on the three-story expansion of Tiffany & Co.’s flagship store at 727 Fifth Avenue in Midtown. Designed by OMA partners Shohei Shigematsu and Jake Forster, the project also involves a full interior overhaul of the 71-year-old structure, which is located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and East 57th Street. When complete, the building will stand ten stories tall.
