Excavation Begins at 199 Chrystie Street on the Lower East Side

Excavation is beginning at 199 Chrystie Street for what will become a 14-story, 39,188 square-foot condominium tower with full-floor residences. R. Wade Johnson Design is listed as the architect of record for the the development, which is located on the Lower East Side near the corner of Chrystie Street and Stanton Street. KD Sagamore Capital is the owner and developer, and purchased the property for $20 million. The site was previously occupied by two buildings, 199 and 201 Chrystie Street, whose demolition was completed earlier this year.

Essex Crossing Tops Out at 180 Broome Street on the Lower East Side

A new mixed-use tower within the billion-dollar Essex Crossing development has officially topped out above the Lower East Side, Manhattan. Located at 180 Broome Street, the 26-story tower is designed by Handel Architects and will eventually contain 175,000 square feet of office space, 263 rental units, and 27,000 square feet of retail area. The building is expected to complete by the end of 2020, while the full Essex Crossing project is planned to wrap up by 2024.

Permits have been filed for a 10-story apartment building at 14 2nd Avenue in the East Village, Manhattan. Located between Chrystie Street and East 1st Street, the interior lot is steps away from the 2nd Avenue subway station, serviced by the F train. Daniel Vislocky of Station Companies is listed as the owner behind the applications.

Construction at David Adjaye’s 130 William Street Reaches Final Two Floors, in the Financial District

Construction at 130 William Street is two floors from topping out over the Financial District. The upcoming condominium tower is the first project in New York City by Sir David Adjaye of Adjaye Associates. Hill West Architects is the architect of record while Lightstone Group is the developer. The 66-story development will rise 800 feet tall and yield 244 units marketed by Corcoran Sunshine.

Permits have been filed for an 18-story hotel at 145 Bowery on the Lower East Side, Manhattan. Located between Grand Street and Broome Street, the corner lot is one block south of the Bowery subway station, serviced by the J and Z trains. It is also one block north of the Grand Street station, serviced by the B and D trains. The Lightstone Group is listed as the owner behind the applications.

Set to appear again before the city’s Landmarks Preservation Commission, Morris Adjmi Architects has revised its proposal for a mixed-use development in Greenwich Village. The project scope includes a new six-story building at 38 West 8th Street and renovations to a neighboring structure at 177 MacDougal Street.

Visible Construction Halts as One Seaport Allegedly Begins To Lean, at 161 Maiden Lane, in the Financial District

Construction at One Seaport, aka 161 Maiden Lane, has been noticeably paused for the past several months. The 60-story reinforced concrete structure topped-out back in early September, and it was unclear until recently why further progress had halted. However, new reports have revealed the 670-foot-tall building is actually leaning three inches to the north, leading to a series of legal disputes between Fortis Property Group, LLC, the developer, and Pizzarotti LLC, the current contractor. The project is being designed by Hill West Architects while Groves & Co is serving as the interior designer. Douglas Elliman is handling sales of the units.

Work on 111 Leroy Street in the West Village is making steady progress. The upcoming 10-story project, which is located between Hudson Street and Greenwich Street, is being designed by Workshop APD and developed by Property Markets Group. There will be nine full-floor condominiums, called The Residences, and five adjacent single-family townhomes, called The Houses. Douglas Elliman is in charge of marketing and sales of the 14 residential units.

Morris Adjmi Architects will appear yet again before the Landmarks Preservation Commission with proposals to construct a new mixed-use office development in the East Village. Located at 3 St. Mark’s Place, the property is positioned on the corner of 3rd Avenue and St. Mark’s Place. The draft proposals also include alterations to an existing structure at 4 St. Mark’s Place and the transfer of approximately 8,400 square feet of build rights to facilitate construction of the new office building.
