Façade Work Continues on Santiago Calatrava’s St. Nicholas Green Orthodox Church, in Financial District

Façade work is continuing to progress on St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, a reinforced concrete structure atop the elevated Liberty Park in the Financial District. Designed by  Santiago Calatrava and developed by The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the church is found near the intersection of Greenwich Street and Liberty Street and sits above the eastern half of the vehicle security center for the World Trade Center.

Construction has topped out on 141 East Houston Street, a ten-story mixed-use office building on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Designed by Roger Ferris + Partners and developed by East End Capital and K Property Group, the 68,000-square-foot structure will yield office space as well as retail on the ground floor and two cellar levels. The property is located between Forsyth Street to the west and Eldridge Street to the east on a plot that was formerly occupied by the Sunshine Cinema.

Demo permits have been filed for 14 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village, the site of a planned 19-story residential tower designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects and Hill West. Located between East 8th Street and East 9th Street with 52 feet of frontage along Fifth Avenue, the property is currently occupied by a four-story residential building with 20 units. Madison Realty Capital is listed as the owner behind the application, after purchasing the 5,255-square-foot site for $27.5 million in 2015.

Construction is topped out on 50 Trinity Place, a 28-story Aloft Hotel in the Financial District. Designed by Peter Poon Architects and developed by FIT Investment Corporation, which purchased the property for $15 million in 2012, the 77,310-square-foot tower will yield 173 hotel rooms at the corner of Trinity Place and Rector Street, diagonally across from Trinity Church.

Work is progressing behind scaffolding on 173-175 Chrsytie Street, a topped-out ten-story residential building on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Designed by ODA Architects and developed by Nexus Building Development Group, Inc., the 25,500-square-foot-structure will yield 13 units ranging from two- to three-bedroom layouts, as well as 1,537 square feet of ground-floor retail space. The structure stands opposite Sara D. Roosevelt Park and immediately to the north of two other current residential buildings from the same design and development team, 167 Chrystie Street and 165 Chrystie Street.
