Construction Breaks Ground at 14 White Street in Tribeca, Manhattan

Excavation has begun at 14 White Street, the site of a seven-story residential building in the Tribeca East Historic District. Designed in collaboration between NAVA and DXA Studios and developed by 14 White Street Property Owner LLC, the 30,000-square-foot structure will yield ten condominium units ranging from 1,200-square-foot two-bedroom homes to four-bedroom layouts spanning 4,000 square feet. Central is the general contractor for the property, which is bound by White Street to the south and Sixth Avenue to the east.

Kasa Lantern LES Debuts at 120 Allen Street on Manhattan’s Lower East Side

Kasa Living has opened its latest apartment-style hotel property at 120 Allen Street on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Known as Kasa Lantern LES, the ten-story building comprises 20 short-stay rooms styled as condominium homes.

St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church Opens to the Public in Manhattan’s Financial District

YIMBY recently visited the completed St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, which opened its doors on December 5, 2022. Designed by Santiago Calatrava and developed by The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the reinforced concrete structure stands 25 feet above street level atop Liberty Park, across from the site of the original 16-acre World Trade Center complex in Lower Manhattan’s Financial District. Interior paintings were all done by hand by iconographer Father Loukas of Xenophontos.

355 Grand Street Nears Completion on Manhattan’s Lower East Side

Construction is nearing completion on 355 Grand Street, a six-story residential building on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Designed by S M Tam Architect and developed by Interboro Realty Management, which purchased the property for $4 million in 2015, the structure will yield an undisclosed number of units and 2,282 square feet of ground-floor retail space. Grand Building Contracting Inc. is the general contractor for the project, which is located on the southwest corner of Grand and Essex Streets.

Permits Filed for 307 Sixth Avenue in Greenwich Village, Manhattan

Permits have been filed for a seven-story mixed-use building at 307 Sixth Avenue in Greenwich Village, Manhattan. Located between Carmine Street and Cornelia Street, the lot is two blocks from the West 4th Street-Washington Square subway station, serviced by the A, B, C, D, E, F, and M trains. William Schneider under the 307-309 Sixth Avenue LLC is listed as the owner behind the applications.

125 Greenwich Street Awaits Completion in Manhattan’s Financial District

Next on YIMBY’s Turkey Week update of stalled projects is 125 Greenwich Street, an 88-story residential skyscraper in the Financial District. Designed by Rafael Vinoly and originally developed by Bizzi & Partners, Cindat, New Valley, the Carlton Group, and Shvo, the 912-foot-tall structure has lingered at near-completion since late 2019. The tower was planned to yield 273 condominium units with interiors by March & White and marketing led by Douglas Elliman. Plaza Construction is the general contractor for the property, which is located at the corner of Greenwich and Thames Streets, just downtown from the World Trade Center complex.

45 Park Place Stands Unfinished in Tribeca, Manhattan

Second on YIMBY’s Turkey Week tour of stalled projects is 45 Park Place, a 43-story residential skyscraper in Tribeca. Designed by SOMA Architects with Ismael Leyva Architects as the executive and residential architect and developed by Sharif el-Gamal of Soho Properties, the 667-foot-tall tower has been stalled since sometime in late 2019. Piero Lissoni is the interior designer, Permasteelisa Group and Vidaris are the façade consultants, and Gilbane Residential Construction is the general contractor for the property, which is located between Church Street and West Broadway.

79 Eldridge Street Awaits Further Progress on Manhattan’s Lower East Side

Construction appears stalled on 79 Eldridge Street, a 14-story hotel building on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Designed by Ellipses Design and developed by DLC Development, Inc., the structure is planned to yield 48 rooms and a 1,243-square-foot common space. Triborough Construction Services is the general contractor for the property, which is located between Grand and Hester Streets.

Seaport Residences Remains Stalled at 161 Maiden Lane in Financial District, Manhattan

Kicking off our annual Turkey Week rundown of notable stalled projects is Seaport Residences, a 60-story residential skyscraper at 161 Maiden Lane along the border of Lower Manhattan’s Financial District and the South Street Seaport District. Designed by Hill West Architects and developed by Fortis Property Group, the 670-foot-tall tower has been on hold since sometime in late 2020, and its future remains uncertain. The 200,000-square-foot structure is planned to yield 80 units with interiors by Groves & Co. Ray Builders was the latest contractor for the property, which is located on a narrow rectangular site bound by South Street and Maiden Lane.

Mosaic Installation Unveiled at Esplanade Plaza in Battery Park City, Manhattan

Battery Park City Authority, the Art for Justice Fund, and the Ford Foundation have unveiled a trio of public mosaics at Esplanade Plaza in Lower Manhattan. Entitled Justice Reflected, the mosaics are located on a 90-foot granite wall at the southern end of Battery Park’s North Cove Marina and were created by artist James Yaya Hough.
