In 2013, Fosun International Ltd. bought One Chase Manhattan Plaza. They have re-branded it as 28 Liberty Street and now they want to re-develop the landmark. The proposal includes ground floor retail and major changes to the plaza, and was presented to the Landmarks Preservation Commission on Tuesday, but the commissioners had issues. So, the team will have to re-work their plan before they get the go-ahead.
Landmarking and NIMBYism severely limit new construction in the West Village, but every once in a while, a longtime property owner finds a way to redevelop a small, un-landmarked plot. And so a new building application has been filed for a six-story, 20-unit development at 51 Carmine Street, on the corner of Bedford Street.
190 Bowery is on its way to a rebirth. The building that sits at the corner of Bowery and Spring Street will once again become an office building with ground floor retail, but will keep the graffiti that has accumulated over the years, thanks to approval from the Landmarks Preservation Commission.
Construction is chugging along at the massive Greenwich Lane complex, where Rudin Management and Global Holdings are building out five townhouses and five condo buildings on the site of the former St Vincent’s Hospital in the West Village.
The site at 70 Charlton Street in Hudson Square has seen several proposed configurations, but it appears that Extell has finally settled on two 21-story towers as depicted in the most recent zoning diagrams, which are now accompanied by renderings from the project’s teaser website.
