Planned Supertall at 151 East 60th Street Appears To Be Latest Casualty of Chinese Development Bust, on the Upper East Side

Directly across the street from Bloomingdale’s, 143-155 East 60th Street, or 151 East 60th Street, was supposed to give rise to a residential supertall on the southern edge of the Upper East Side. The assemblage has seen impressive design proposals released by both Archillier Architecture and Kohn Pedersen Fox. Demolition of six low-rise buildings began in the summer of 2017, after permits were filed. However, since then, activity has come to a grinding halt, and it appears that the site is the latest casualty of New York City’s Chinese-led development bust.

Morris Adjmi-Designed “Front and York” Revealed at 85 Jay Street in DUMBO, Brooklyn

Located in the Brooklyn neighborhood of DUMBO, new renderings and information have been revealed for the future site of 85 Jay Street. Bound by Jay Street, Front Street, Bridge Street and York Street, the large rectangular parcel of land was one of the biggest undeveloped sites in the neighborhood, and has long been used as a parking lot. The lot was previously sold for $345 million dollars from the Jehovah’s Witnesses three years ago. The site is now addressed as “Front and York” and will be designed by Morris Adjmi Architects and developed by CIM Group and LIVWRK. 1.1 million square feet of condominiums, rentals and retail space is expected to result.

Rendering Revealed, Excavation Underway for 128 West 23rd Street, in Chelsea

A new residential building is coming to 128 West 23rd Street in Chelsea, between Sixth Avenue and Seventh Avenues, and today YIMBY has the first look at renderings and an update on progress. When complete, there will be 40,230 square feet of residential space split amongst 33 units averaging about 1,200 square feet apiece. 3,598 square feet of retail space will be located on the ground floor. Valyrian Capital and Pan Brothers are the developers of the site while Kutnicki Bernstein Architects is the architect of record.

New renderings have been unveiled for “The Shoppes on 82nd Street,” located between Ithaca Street and Roosevelt Avenue on 82nd Street, at the border of Jackson Heights and Elmhurst, in Queens. The outdoor mall, currently under construction, is served by five subway lines in the area, including the E, F, M, and R trains at 74th Street and Broadway, as well as the 7 train at the 82nd Street station. The project is situated in a prime shopping district of Jackson Heights, with more than 20 national and regional chain stores, and is also easily accessible by car via the Grand Central Parkway, Brooklyn Queens Expressway, and the Long Island Expressway.

Rogers Stirk Harbour+Partners Proposing New Construction and Expansion on Three Sites in West Chelsea Historic District

Led by Rogers Stirk Harbours + Partners, the UK-based design team has proposed a large development project in the West Historic Chelsea District. Consisting of three adjoining construction sites, the firm is seeking to create a new eleven-story building at 550 West 27th Street, as well as an expanded upper section on top of 260 Eleventh Avenue and an exterior renovation of 549 West 26th Street. The proposal is now under review by the Landmark Preservation Committee as of January 10, 2019.
