Aman New York at the Crown Building Readies for Spring Debut at 730 Fifth Avenue in Midtown, Manhattan

Work is getting close to completion on The Aman New York, a residential and hotel conversion and expansion of the 30-story Crown Building at 730 Fifth Avenue in Midtown. Designed by Jean-Michel Gathy and developed by OKO Group, the project involves the construction of a low-rise annex and the restoration and repurposing of the 101-year-old Warren and Wetmore-designed office tower into 83 guest rooms and 22 residences. Gilbane Building Company is serving as the general contractor for the development, which spans Fifth Avenue between West 56th and West 57th Streets, aka Billionaires’ Row.

Mandarin Oriental Residences Fifth Avenue Progresses at 685 Fifth Avenue in Midtown, Manhattan

Construction is continuing on the Mandarin Oriental Residences Fifth Avenue, a 29-story residential conversion at 685 Fifth Avenue in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Marin Architects and developed by SHVO in partnership with Deutsche Finance, the $135 million project will convert 100,000 square feet of former office space into a condominium property managed by Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, above Fifth Avenue retail frontage marketed by Brookfield Properties. The Rinaldi Group of New York, LLC is the general contractor of the project, which is located between East 53rd and East 54th Streets.

Work is continuing on the renovation of 660 Fifth Avenue, a 64-year-old, 39-story commercial building in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by Brookfield Properties, the project involves an interior overhaul and a complete re-cladding, replacing the old aluminum envelope with a modern glass curtain wall. The 1.25 million-square-foot property is located along Fifth Avenue between West 52nd and 53rd Streets and was formerly addressed as 666 Fifth Avenue.

131-141 East 47th Street’s Superstructure Climbs Above Midtown East, Manhattan

Construction has reached the halfway point on 131-141 East 47th Street, a 34-story residential skyscraper in Midtown East. Designed by Ismael Leyva Architects and developed by Silverback Development, the 500-foot-tall structure will yield 200 apartments ranging from studios to two-bedroom units as well as 5,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space with frontage along West 47th Street. Silverback was brought onto the project by Hopson Development Holdings, which purchased the rectangular parcel for $115 million in December 2019 from the original developers, New Empire Real Estate. Structure Tech New York and Cauldwell Wingate are in charge of building the project, which is located between Lexington and Third Avenues.
