Thomas Heatherwick’s Hudson Yards Sculpture Now Under Construction

According to The New York Times, UK-based Thomas Heatherwick’s Hudson Yards centerpiece is now under construction. A source who has seen the design described it as resembling the shape of a chalice, rising higher than the 100-foot-tall Culture Shed, which YIMBY unveiled in 2013. The sculpture does not require public review, and Related Companies and Oxford Properties are developing.

New Building Likely Planned At 2255 Broadway, Upper West Side

The three-story commercial building spanning 2251-2259 Broadway, at West 81st Street on the Upper West Side, is expected to be demolished to make way for a new development, according to West Side Rag. The retail tenants are currently in the relocation process, and developer Alchemy Properties is leasing the property from the owner. Building applications and demolition permits have not been filed yet, although the property’s unused air rights were subdivided from the existing structure in April.

Six-Story, 11-Unit Residential Building To Replace Townhouse At 231 East 123rd Street, East Harlem

Big Brooklyn Rehab Inc. has filed applications for a six-story, 11-unit residential building at 231 East 123rd Street, in East Harlem, four blocks from the 125th Street stop on the 4, 5 and 6 trains. The building will measure 8,670 square feet, which means units will average 790 square feet — probably rentals. Woody Chen’s Infocus Design & Planning is the applicant of record, and the existing three-story, three-family townhouse must first be demolished.


4016 7th Avenue

Six-Story, 10-Unit Mixed-Use Project Planned At 4016 7th Avenue, Sunset Park

Ritz Realty NY Corp. has filed applications for a six-story, 10-unit mixed-use building at 4016 7th Avenue, in northern Sunset Park, three blocks from the D train’s 9th Avenue stop. The building will total 9,330 square feet, and will include 1,140 square feet of community facility space on the ground and cellar levels. Beginning on the second floor, residential units will average 820 square feet. Jung Wor Chin is the architect of record, and the existing two-story, two-unit townhouse must first be demolished.
