Revealed: 92 Eighth Avenue, New Chelsea Apartment Building Replacing Sandy-Damaged Structure

When Hurricane Sandy hit, most of the damage to Manhattan came in the form of flooding, but some buildings were also casualties of high winds. That was especially true at 92 Eighth Avenue, located between 14th and 15th Streets in Chelsea, as the structure’s facade collapsed during the storm, leaving the interiors exposed. But fortunately it is finally being replaced, and YIMBY now has the reveal for the new building, designed by C3D Architecture.

Church conversions in New York City always seem to be an architectural roll of the dice, but YIMBY noticed this fairly attractive rendering on the fence at 81 Ten Eyck Street in East Williamsburg, where the former St Mary’s Catholic Church is being transformed into apartments.

11-Story Apartment Building Revealed at 130 Mount Vernon Avenue, in Mount Vernon

MacQuesten Development and NYS Homes and Community Renewal have announced an 11-story, 80-unit rental building at the vacant lot of 130 Mount Vernon Avenue, in Mount Vernon, per Real Estate Weekly. Dubbed The Modern, the $31.5 million project will include 9,400 square feet of retail space. The building is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2016.

Developers Break Ground on Empire Outlets Mixed-Use Project in St. George

DNAinfo reports BFC Partners have broken ground this week on Empire Outlets, a 100-store mall at 35 Richmond Terrace, in St. George. The development will also include an 11-story, 190-unit mixed-use hotel and residential building, and the entire project will total 443,000 square feet. DNAinfo also broke news of the mall’s most recently signed tenants; Applebee’s, Gap, and White House Black Market will together take 100,000 square feet, joining H&M and Nordstrom Rack.

Construction Wraps Up at 67 Avenue C, Mixed-Use Condo Building in the East Village

EV Grieve has noticed Vinbaytel Property Development’s seven-story, seven-condo-unit mixed-use building is wrapping up construction at 67 Avenue C, in the East Village. The façade has been installed, and the building will also includes a commercial unit for a retail tenant. Opening is scheduled for this summer.

SL Green Planning New Four-Story Retail Building at 719 7th Avenue Near Times Square

SL Green Realty has filed applications for a four-story, 6,020 square-foot commercial building — rising 57 feet tall — at 719 7th Avenue, in Midtown’s Theater District. The job description states the building will be solely for retail, and will feature signage above the roof. TPG Architecture is designing, and the existing three-story building was approved for demolition back in December.

South Bronx Rental Building Purchased for $31 Million, Up $20 Million Within 5 Years

Investor Benzion Kohn has acquired the six-story, 182-rental-unit mixed-use building at 975 Walton Avenue, in The Concourse, for $31 million, per The Real Deal. The previous owners bought the 279,000 square-foot building for about $11.3 million in 2010; commercial space in the structure totals 1,000 square feet.

Five-Story, Five-Unit Residential Building Coming to 656 St. Ann’s Avenue in South Bronx
