Preservationists Oppose Making Union Square Park A City Landmark

It’s not every day that you see preservationists speak out against designating a new landmark, but that’s what happened on Thursday as the Landmarks Preservation Commission held a public hearing about designating Union Square Park a city scenic landmark. The LPC is continuing its process of dealing with its backlog of 95 items that have been on the calendar since before 2010. Thursday was the first day to deal with properties in Manhattan.

Seven-Story, 128-Unit Residential Project At 1475 Palisade Avenue Financed, Teaneck, New Jersey

Back in 2013, the Teaneck, New Jersey Zoning Board of Adjustment granted a variance to build a seven-story, 128-unit apartment building at 1475 Palisade Avenue. Now the developer, The Family Office, has landed a $30 million construction loan to build the project, according to Real Estate Weekly. The building will sit atop a two-story, 256-car parking garage, and residential units will have one- to three-bedroom configurations. An estimated completion date has not been released.

35 Monroe Avenue

Three-Story, Three-Family Residential Building Coming To 35 Monroe Avenue, St. George

Property owner Kaplan Ibraimovic has filed applications for a three-story, three-unit residential building at 35 Monroe Avenue, in St. George, on Staten Island. The little multi-family home will measure 2,256 square feet, and full-floor units will average a rental-sized 752 square feet apiece. Staten Island-based Frank Vaccaro is the applicant of record, and a recessed garage, originally associated with the neighboring residence, must first be demolished.

185 Throop Avenue

Six-Story, 89-Unit Supportive Residential Building Planned At 185 Throop Avenue, Bed-Stuy

Comunilife and Woodhull Medical Center are planning to build a six-story, 89-unit all-affordable residential building at 185 Throop Avenue, at a vacant lot in northern Bedford-Stuyvesant where the medical center is also located. The building will include 53 apartments for people referred by Woodhull and 36 low-income residential units, according to DNAinfo. Brooklyn Community Board 3 recently approved the project, although applications have yet to be filed with the DOB.
