9 DeKalb Avenue Gets Ready to Rise in Downtown Brooklyn

As New York City’s supertall boom spreads beyond Manhattan, the first site in the outer boroughs that should yield a tower exceeding the 1,000-foot mark will be 9 DeKalb Avenue, in Downtown Brooklyn. YIMBY has reported extensively on the evolution of the project, beginning with the initial DOB applications back in June of 2014, and continuing through the full reveal at the LPC last April. Now, machinery is on-site, and excavation work appears to be getting underway for the 1,066-foot-tall tower.

Permits Filed for 128 West 26th Street, Chelsea

New building applications have been filed for a 14-story building at 128 West 26th Street, on the eastern edge of Chelsea. The structure will contain 2,047 square feet of retail space on the ground level, topped by 22,449 square feet of residential up above. The latter component will be divided between 13 units, or one per floor, with the average size of over 1,700 square feet indicative of condominiums. Panagiotis Vikatos is listed as the architect, and Gary Vinbaytel of 126 West 26th Street LLC is the developer.

Excavation Making Headway for Lightstone’s 130 William Street, Financial District

YIMBY has reported extensively on Lightstone’s impending condominium tower coming to 130 William Street, in the heart of the Financial District. Plans have evolved substantially since initial building applications were filed back in March of 2015, and initial plans for a mixed-use building with a substantial hotel component were dropped for the all-condominium version as of early 2017. Demolition of the site’s extant structures has since been completed, and now excavation is making quick headway, as per the latest photos from rbrome.

Permits Filed for 961 Westchester Avenue, Foxhurst, Bronx

One block northeast of the Intervale Avenue stop on the 2 and 5 trains, new building applications have been filed for a mixed-use structure at 961 Westchester Avenue, in the Bronx’s Foxhurst neighborhood. The building will have a total construction area of just over 35,000 square feet, with 4,937 square feet of commercial space on the ground floor, 6,613 square feet of community facility space on the second floor, and 22,078 square feet of residential space on floors three through seven. The project’s 24 units will average about 910 square feet apiece, possibly indicating condominiums. Panos Vikatos is the site’s architect, and Tony Roussos of Westchester Ave LLA LLC is the developer.


514 Eleventh Avenue

Permits Filed for Silverstein’s Massive Site at 520 West 41st Street

The site of the old Mercedes dealership at 520 West 41st Street has seen several prospective designs covered by YIMBY over the years, including a pair of connected skyscrapers that generated a substantial amount of buzz. Now, permits have finally been filed with the Department of Buildings for the site’s residential tower, which will rise 57 floors and 723 feet to its rooftop.
