Norman Foster’s 425 Park Avenue Heads for 897-Foot Pinnacle Above Midtown East

Construction on 425 Park Avenue in Midtown is charging ahead toward completion, with the upper floors now taking shape. The 47-story, 897-foot-tall building is designed by Norman Foster, head of Foster + Partners, and is being developed by L&L Holding Company LLCAdamson Associates is the architect of record. The final major elements yet to be assembled are the three glass fins that will stand atop the flat roof parapet. This architectural detail will define the tower among the surrounding buildings, especially when illuminated at night.

LPC Reviews Gensler’s Two-Floor Expansion of One Broadway, in Battery Park, Manhattan

New York developer Midtown Equities has partnered with architecture firm Gensler to construct a rooftop extension atop one of Battery Park’s oldest extant structures, known today as One Broadway. The commercial office building was originally completed in 1882, and sits at the same address once occupied by George Washington’s New York headquarters. Considering the age and rich history of the building, approvals are required by New York City’s Landmarks Preservation Commission.

GDSNY’s 1241 Broadway Begins To Rise As Excavation Work Wraps, in NoMad

Work at the corner lot for 1241 Broadway in NoMad is seeing a lot of activity in preparation for a 22-story, SOM-designed commercial office building. Excavation on the perimeter of the site is finishing up, while work on the reinforced concrete foundations and core walls is happening simultaneously. This is a rapid change of pace since YIMBY last visited the Midtown location a couple months ago, when it was still quiet. The future 318-foot-tall, 170,000-square-foot tower is being developed by GDS Development and Sweden-based Klovern. Triton Construction is currently in charge of building the structure.

Facebook’s Possible 1,400-Foot ‘Penn15’ Supertall Revealed as Vornado Appears to Change Plans For 401 Seventh Avenue, in Midtown Manhattan

One of the largest potential office buildings in New York City has long been in the works on the site of the Hotel Pennsylvania, at 401 Seventh Avenue, with renderings for a soaring supertall first released last decade. But now, YIMBY has the latest on Vornado’s newest vision for the site, which would place Facebook within a massive 2.8-million-square-foot tower designed by Rafael Vinoly, dubbed “Penn15” in the brochure.
