Hauser & Wirth Gallery Tops Out at 542 West 22nd Street in Chelsea

YIMBY last reported on 542 West 22nd Street back in 2015, when permits were filed for a new five-story, 31,158-square-foot art gallery. Now, the reinforced concrete superstructure is topped-out, and will soon be home to Zurich-based Hauser & Wirth, which is also the developer of the project. The building, designed by Annabelle Selldorf, is located between Tenth Avenue and Eleventh Avenue in West Chelsea, and stands 95 feet tall.

44 Union Square’s Space Frame Dome Structurally Completed in Union Square

The curved dome atop 44 Union Square, the former headquarters of Tammany Hall, is structurally completed and the geometric glass panels that enclose the lattice frame are beginning to be installed. The renovation is designed by BKSK Architects and developed by Edifice Real Estate Partners. CNY Group is in charge of construction on the historic, 90-year-old landmarked structure, which is being expanded to 70,348 square feet. Two new floors will be housed beneath the dome and receive abundant natural daylight. Reading International (RDI), who purchased the building eighteen years ago, helped to advance the project thanks a $57.5 million construction loan they secured from Bank of Ozarks and Fisher Brothers.

Long-Awaited Office Tower at 106 West 56th Street Finally Tops Out, in Midtown

Construction at 106 West 56th Street has recently topped out at 27 stories. The Perkins Eastman-designed office building stands 403 feet tall and is being developed by private equity firm Savanna Fund, along with Hong Kong-based developer Atom Assets. The steel superstructure and its gentle setbacks should soon see the first glass curtain wall panels installed in the coming weeks. The site is located just one block south of 57th Street, aka Billionaires’ Row.

Foundation Work Begins for 29th & 5th, BIG’s Office Skyscraper at 3 West 29th Street in NoMad

Excavation work has commenced for 29th & 5th, Bjarke Ingels Group‘s proposed skyscraper at 3 West 29th Street in NoMad. Excavators, piling machines, and other construction equipment are in use at the site, which is located just five blocks south of the Empire State Building. Developed by HFZ Capital Group, the future 34-story, 551-foot-tall office tower will yield 300,000 square feet and incorporate shear glass walls and staggered outdoor terraces along the eastern elevation.
