Façade Installation Begins on 550 Tenth Avenue in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan

Work is unfolding rapidly on 550 Tenth Avenue, a 47-story residential skyscraper in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan. Designed by Handel Architects and developed by Gotham Organization and Goldman Sachs Asset Management JV, the 520-foot-tall structure will yield 430,000 square feet and 453 rental units, with 137 reserved for affordable housing, as well as 9,000 square feet of lower-level retail space, over 20,000 square feet of amenities, and 26,764 square feet of administrative office space for Covenant House. GO Covenant LLC is the owner and Monadnock Construction is the general contractor for the property, which is located along Tenth Avenue between West 40th and 41st Streets.

Plans Unveiled for Phase 2 of Life Sciences and Technology Development in New Brunswick, New Jersey

SJP Properties and New Brunswick Development Corporation (DEVCO) have unveiled plans to develop H-2, the second phase of HELIX Health + Life Science Exchange in downtown New Brunswick, New Jersey. With a total cost of $731 million, HELIX is the largest investment in life sciences and medical education in New Jersey’s history, and representative of the state’s life sciences sector and demand for accessible lab space. Plans for H-2 call for a mixed-use building yielding 600,000 square feet of build-to-suit lab and office space. HDR is the lead architect and JLL will serve as the H-2’s leasing agent.

Two-Tower Development Taking Shape at 267 Bond and 498 Sackett Streets in Gowanus, Brooklyn

Foundation work is wrapping up on Society Brooklyn and Sackett Place, a pair of 21-story residential buildings at 267 Bond Street and 498 Sackett Street in Gowanus, Brooklyn. Designed by SLCE Architects and developed by Property Markets Group, which acquired both plots for $9 million in 2021, the complex will yield a combined 594,000 square feet with 517 residential units and 52,000 square feet of commercial space. The development is proceeding with $18.5 million in financing from Maxim Capital Group. Urban Atelier Group is the general contractor for the project, which is bound by DeGraw Street to the north, Sackett Street to the south, the Gowanus Canal to the east, and Bond Street to the west.

Façade installation is nearing completion on Fashion Institute of Technology‘s ten-story New Academic Building at 220 West 28th Street in Chelsea, Manhattan. Designed by SHoP Architects, the 110,000-square-foot structure is engineered to LEED Gold standards and will yield classrooms, administrative offices, review and exhibition spaces, and a student quad illuminated by skylights. Forte Construction Corp. is the general contractor for the property, which sits on a shallow plot between Seventh and Eighth Avenues on the northernmost edge of the FIT campus.
