Essex Crossing Tops Out at 180 Broome Street on the Lower East Side

A new mixed-use tower within the billion-dollar Essex Crossing development has officially topped out above the Lower East Side, Manhattan. Located at 180 Broome Street, the 26-story tower is designed by Handel Architects and will eventually contain 175,000 square feet of office space, 263 rental units, and 27,000 square feet of retail area. The building is expected to complete by the end of 2020, while the full Essex Crossing project is planned to wrap up by 2024.

The Spiral’s First Steel Column Dedicated at 66 Hudson Boulevard, in Hudson Yards

Recently developer Tishman Speyer held a dedication ceremony to install the first steel column at the site of 66 Hudson Boulevard, aka The Spiral. A number of people signed the white-colored steel beam before it was raised into place, marking a major step in the construction process for the upcoming supertall office building. The 2.85-million-square-foot structure is located in Hudson Yards and will be designed by Bjarke Ingels of Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG). Turner Construction Company is the construction manager while Banker Steel is in charge of fabricating the steel for the 65-story tower.

United Arab Emirates Consulate Tops Out at 315 East 46th Street in Midtown East

Construction has topped out at 315 East 46th Street in the Midtown East neighborhood of Turtle Bay. The site was once planned as 25-story condominium tower, but the project was scrapped due to financial issues during the early years of the Great Recession. Now, nearly ten years later, the property is heading toward completion as the nine-story home of the consulate of the United Arab Emirates. The reinforced concrete structure is being designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill and developed by Fisher Brothers. Plaza Construction is building the 145-foot tall tower and will soon begin to install the curtain wall.
