Eight-Story, 12-Unit Mixed-Use Building Filed at 137-70 Northern Boulevard, Flushing

A Flushing-based property owner has filed applications for an eight-story, 12-unit mixed-use building at 137-70 Northern Boulevard, in downtown Flushing. The project will encompass 54,983 square feet and rise 97 feet to its roof. There will be 14,251 square feet of retail space across parts of the ground through third floors, followed by 5,361 square feet of medical office space on the third floor and 12 apartments across the fourth through eighth floors. The residential units should average 1,580 square feet apiece, which means they will likely be condominiums.


750 Fifth Avenue

Restoration Work Underway on Weir Greenhouse Building at 750 Fifth Avenue, Greenwood Heights

In July 2015, the Landmarks Preservation Commission rejected a proposal by Green-Wood Cemetery to restore the Weir Greenhouse and build an adjacent three-story visitor center at 750 Fifth Avenue, located on the corner of 25th Street in Greenwood Heights. Later that year, the LPC approved restoration work, designed by Page Ayres Crowley Architects, on only the existing greenhouse structure. Construction is now underway on the 40-foot-tall structure, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle reported.

Liberty Science Center Moves Forward With Plans for SciTech Scity Academic Complex, Jersey City

The Liberty Science Center is moving forward with plans to develop an eight-story, 400,000-square-foot mixed-use academic complex on the 16-acre site at 222 Jersey City Boulevard, in Jersey City’s Liberty Harbor section. Dubbed SciTech Scity, it will include the Liberty Science K-12 school, which will likely consist of charter, vocational, and/or private schools, Jersey Digs reported. There will also be roughly 160,000 square feet of research and collaborative office space, called Edge Works.


191 Harrison Avenue

Mixed-Use Project with Residential Units Planned at 191 Harrison Avenue, Williamsburg

Developer Abraham Brach has acquired, for $27.5 million, the 30,000-square-foot development site at 191 Harrison Avenue, located between Bartlett and Gerry streets in the Broadway Triangle section of Williamsburg. The new owner plans to build a mixed-use project with community facility space, geared toward the Orthodox Jewish community, and residential units, The Real Deal reported. The site can accommodate up to 120,000 square feet of development. It’s occupied by multiple dilapidated, low-rise commercial-warehouses, ranging from one to three stories. Demolition permits have yet to be filed.

City Launching Plans for New Inwood Library with Affordable Housing Component at 4790 Broadway

The city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) is partnering with the New York Public Library and the Robin Hood Foundation to explore redevelopment opportunities at 4790 Broadway, the site of the two-story Inwood Library, The Real Deal reported. A new building would retain the existing library and 100 percent of its residential units would be designated as affordable, although the scale of the project is unclear. The city will launch a request for proposals once workshops, where community members can give input, are held later this month. The proposal will have to be approved through the city’s Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP).
