Construction has broken ground on the Queens Public Library at Rego Park, located at 91–41 63rd Drive in Rego Park, Queens. Designed by Weiss/Manfredi and managed by the Department of Design and Construction (DDC) on behalf of Queens Public Library, the three-story, 18,000-square-foot facility will replace the existing one-story, 7,500-square-foot branch. The site is located at the corner of 63rd Drive and Austin Street.

Restored Soccer Fields Reopen On Randall’s Island, Manhattan

New York City Mayor Eric Adams, alongside NYC Parks Commissioner Iris Rodriguez-Rosa and the Randall’s Island Park Alliance, has announced the reopening of four newly restored soccer fields at Randall’s Island Park in Manhattan. The $5 million project, funded through a city capital investment, transforms the former site of the Randall’s Island Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Center into a recreational space with synthetic turf fields and improved pedestrian pathways.

LPC To Review Demolition Permit for 165 West 86th Street on Manhattan’s Upper West Side

The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission is set to review a proposal for the demolition of West-Park Presbyterian Church at 165 West 86th Street on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Submitted by Alchemy Properties and the West Park Administrative Commission, the application cites unsound structural conditions in the Romanesque Revival building as well as the church administration’s financial hardship under Administrative Code § 25-309(2). The property is located between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues.

Plans Approved for 2,022-Unit Redevelopment of Creedmoor Psychiatric Center in Bellrose, Queens

The Public Authorities Control Board recently approved a state plan by Governor Kathy Hochul’s administration for a sprawling mixed-use residential redevelopment of the Creedmoor Psychiatric Center at 79–25 Winchester Boulevard in Bellerose, Queens. The project calls for 2,022 new market-rate and affordable rental and for-sale homes, as well as supportive housing for veterans and seniors. The plan would also include 10.3 acres of open space, a 120,000-square-foot public grade school, an 8,000-square-foot childcare facility, 16,000 square feet of recreational space for seniors, and an additional 67,000 square feet of retail space. A developer will be selected next year, according to Hochul’s office. The site spans nearly 50 acres and is generally bounded by the Cross Island Parkway to the north and east, Hillside Avenue to the south, and Winchester Boulevard to the west.

Renderings Revealed for The Heartwood at 155 East 173rd Street in Claremont, The Bronx

The first renderings have been revealed for The Heartwood, a 19-story mixed-use building at 155 East 173rd Street in Claremont, The Bronx. Designed by Bernheimer Architecture and Levenbetts Architects, and developed in a joint collaboration between Settlement Housing Fund and Kalel Companies, the building will yield 113 affordable rent stabilized units and a new 17,500-square-foot home for the Grand Concourse Library. At least 15 percent of the residential units will be dedicated to formerly homeless individuals. The property is located at the corner of East 173rd Street and Selwyn Avenue.

Affordable Residential Projects Announced for Clason Point and Concourse Village, The Bronx

Plans have been announced for two 100-percent affordable housing projects in The Bronx at 1810 Randall Avenue in Clason Point and 860 Village Concourse East in Concourse Village. Designed by Aufgang Architects, the buildings will yield a combined 446 units.
