Excavation Underway at 159 West 48th Street, Future Home of Hard Rock Hotel, Times Square

On a plot of land along 48th Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues, excavation has begun for a 445-key Hard Rock Hotel, designed by Berg+ Moss Architects. The hotel’s Times Square outpost will be developed by Extell in a partnership with Hard Rock International, with an address at 159 West 48th Street. Extell purchased the site back in 2011 for $26 million, along with air rights that bring the project up to a potential scope of 225,000 square feet.

Located in Downtown Brooklyn between the Hoyt-Schermerhorn and Nevins St subway line, the new 13-story hotel is designed by Roman and Williams Buildings and Interiors, and is being developed by GFI Hospitality and GFI Development Company.

New building permits have been filed for a seven-story hotel at 35 Port Richmond Avenue in Elm Park, Staten Island. The site is distant from public transport, though it is about one mile from the first exit off the Bayonne Bridge, which connects with New Jersey. Three blocks from the lot is the waterside Faber Park, a small scenic public green space. M.S. Savani Architecture is listed as responsible for the design.

Progress on the second highest tower in the Hudson Yards mega-development has reached a milestone. 35 Hudson Yards has officially topped out at 1,009 feet. Now that it has reached that height, it is the ninth tallest structure in New York City and 19th tallest in the United States. Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group are responsible for the development. Next door, 30 Hudson Yards is tantalizingly close to topping out, but the milestone has not yet officially occurred.
