Work is getting close to completion on The Aman New York, a residential and hotel conversion and expansion of the 30-story Crown Building at 730 Fifth Avenue in Midtown. Designed by Jean-Michel Gathy and developed by OKO Group, the project involves the construction of a low-rise annex and the restoration and repurposing of the 101-year-old Warren and Wetmore-designed office tower into 83 guest rooms and 22 residences. Gilbane Building Company is serving as the general contractor for the development, which spans Fifth Avenue between West 56th and West 57th Streets, aka Billionaires’ Row.
Construction teams at TSX Broadway, a mixed-use hotel tower at 1568 Broadway in Times Square, have begun work on the lifting of the Palace Theatre. The historic venue is being hoisted 30 feet above street level to make way for ground-floor retail space.
Construction is getting closer to completion on the Chelsea Aloft Hotel, a 32-story tower at 132 West 28th Street. Designed by Peter Poon Architects and developed by Frank Ng, the 326-foot-tall reinforced concrete structure will yield 203 guest rooms. Milestone Construction Corporation is the general contractor for the Midtown, Manhattan project, which is located in the Flower District between Sixth and Seventh Avenues.
Work is wrapping up on the RIU Plaza Hotel, a 48-story skyscraper at 145 West 47th Street in Times Square. Designed by Berg + Moss Architects and developed by Tribeach Holdings, the 519-foot-tall, 353,000-square-foot reinforced concrete superstructure will yield 630 rooms. Transom Builders Group is the general contractor for the property, which is located between Sixth and Seventh Avenues.
