Permits have been filed for a nine-story, mixed-use commercial building at 23-20 Jackson Avenue in Long Island City, Queens. The new structure will dedicate 65,000 square feet of newly built space toward residential units, a hotel, and dormitory spaces. The entire building itself is set to yield 82,851 square feet. It will be designed by KSQ Architects. William Dailey Building & Zoning is listed as the filing representative while the Vorea Group is owner of the property. The site is located at the corner of Jackson Avenue and Pearson Street and sits not too far from the Court Square subway station on the 7 train.
Developer and entrepreneur Ian Schrager has commissioned two public art projects that have debuted at 20 Times Square, aka 701 Seventh Avenue. The site is home of the EDITION, a newly opened high-end hotel and is one of the newest buildings to be built at the crossroads of the world. The building is also home to one of the largest LED screens in the world. The billboard art is being curated by multimedia design studio Sila Sveta. One of the videos will show an interactive robotic installation that pays homage to Alexander McQueens’ Spring runway show from 1999. The LED board is located on the lower floors of the hotel which sits at the northeastern corner of West 47th Street and Seventh Avenue.
On the heels of the topping-out of The XI’s second tower, YIMBY attended the official ceremony for the milestone hosted by the project’s architect Bjarke Ingels, offering a first look at the sweeping views from the top of the complex. The 908,250-square-foot development stands next to the High Line in Chelsea and is now the tallest set of buildings in the neighborhood. The first 30-story skyscraper sitting closer to the Hudson River reached the 402-foot-tall roof parapet last year. The shorter 20-story, 300-foot-tall sibling climbed to its pinnacle just a couple weeks ago. HFZ Capital Group is the developer of the project. Omnibuild is in charge of constructing this new icon for New York City.
The future Virgin Hotel at 1225 Broadway has officially topped out above NoMad. The 476-foot tall skyscraper has about 300,000 square feet of newly built space. The interiors will yield a 460-key hotel and 90,000 square feet of retail on the lower podium floors. VOA Associates is the designer of the glass skyscraper while Lam Group is the developer. Sir Richard Branson of Virgin Group will be in charge of managing the hotel when completed.
Permits have been filed for a new 30-story hotel at 112 Liberty Street, in the Financial District. The site sits directly across from 150 Greenwich Street and the World Trade Center complex by the intersection of Church Street and Liberty Street. It will be designed by Stonehill & Taylor Architects and yield around 92,300 square feet of newly built space. Demolition of the current low-rise buildings will have to begin before excavation and construction on the new skyscraper can begin. The new skyscraper is proposed to be 327 feet tall and will be the tallest building on that parcel of land.
