Gene Kaufman-Designed Skyscraper at 265 Broadway Appears Stalled in Lower Manhattan

A 510-foot-tall mixed-use tower designed by Gene Kaufman Architect was proposed for 265-267 Broadway a few years ago, and recently YIMBY checked in for an update on progress, or lack thereof. The Roe Corporation is the developer for the 144,244 square foot site, which is expected to rise a decent height above the surrounding Lower Manhattan skyline once complete. However, with no demolition yet evident, it appears this development may be as dead as a Thanksgiving turkey.

452-Key Marriott EDITION at 20 Times Square Plans For February Opening

20 Times Square, aka 701 Seventh Avenue, is almost complete. The tower already has one of the largest LED screens in Times Square, spanning a whopping 18,000 square feet. In February, doors will officially open to the 517-foot, 42-story, 452-key Marriott Edition hotel, wrapped in glass panels and topped with the logo on its western and southern facades. Witkoff, Ian Schrager Company, Winthrop Realty Trust, and Maefield Development are the developers, while Platt Byard Dovell White Architects (PBDW Architects) is the project’s architect.

New Construction Permits Filed for 1998 Webster Avenue in The West Bronx

New permits have been filed for a four-story hotel at 1998 Webster Avenue, in The West Bronx. Located on the corner of main thoroughfare Webster Avenue and Alden Place, this site is close to Richman Echo Park. The lot is about three blocks from the Metro-North Tremont train station, and a 10 minute walk from the Tremont Avenue subway station, serviced by the B and D trains. Samir Patel is responsible for the development, who previously filed for permits for this site in 2016.

Two New Hotels Coming to 51 and 55 Sheffield Avenue in East New York, Brooklyn

More than 130 hotel units are coming to East New York according to new construction permits recently filed by hotel developer Nehalkumar Gandhi. Located between Fulton Avenue and Atlantic Avenue, the two projects at 51 and 55 Sheffield Avenue will have convenient access to multiple mass transit options. The LIRR East New York station is four blocks away, as is the Atlantic Avenue subway station serviced by the L train.

Located on the corner of Tuckerton Street and main thoroughfare Liberty Avenue, the development is three blocks away from the Jamaica Center – Parsons/Archer subway station, serviced by the E, J and Z trains. Amritpal Sandhu’s Liberty Tuck NY LLC is listed as the developer.

Permits have been filed for a three-story hotel at 148-45 94th Avenue, in Jamaica, Queens. The site is three blocks away from the Jamaica Center subway station, end of the line for the E and J trains. The LIRR’s Jamaica train station is five blocks away, as is the AirTrain to the JFK Airport. L & B Management Inc. will be responsible for the development.

Surprisingly Attractive Hotel at 461 West 34th Street Almost Complete in Hudson Yards, Manhattan

Construction of the 29-story hotel at 461 West 34th Street has long been topped-out, and now the façade is fully complete, with interior work also nearing the finish line. Marx Development Group is responsible for the development. Imminently, the 312-foot-tall structure will add 399 hotel rooms to the Hudson Yards neighborhood, under the Courtyard Hotel brand. On the street level, a retail space will help activate the corner location. The spot is soon to be in extreme demand, as it serves the burgeoning Hudson Yards office and housing markets.

The site is not far from the action in the neighborhood, being just three blocks away from the 21st Street subway station, serviced by the F trains, and five blocks away is the Queensboro Plaza subway station, serviced by the 7, N, and W trains. Rong Dong is listed as behind the applications.

Construction Wraps for World’s Tallest Modular Hotel at 185 Bowery on the Lower East Side

Located at 185 Bowery on the Lower East Side, at the intersection of Bowery and Delancey Street, New York City’s newest CitizenM hotel has finished construction, and is officially now the tallest modular hotel in the United States and the world.
