20-Story Hotel at 10 East 30th Street Nearing Completion in NoMad

Construction crews are putting the final exterior touches on 10 East 30th Street, a new 20-story hotel located in NoMad between Madison Avenue and Fifth Avenue. The reinforced concrete structure was shrouded in a thick layer of netting during its construction, but this has recently been removed revealing a sleek glass curtain wall. The upper floors have a mix of sloped glass and setbacks that may make room for outdoor terrace space. Baobab Architects is the designer of the project.

270 Park Avenue’s Shrouded Demolition Making Progress in Midtown East

Work to prepare 270 Park Avenue for its demolition is continuing in Midtown East. Since YIMBY’s last update in late July, more scaffolding and netting have been installed on the lower section of the Modernist-style skyscraper. JPMorgan Chase is the developer of the project to tear down the 1.5-million-square-foot, 52-story tower and replace it with a 57-story supertall designed by Foster + Partners Architects, with Adamson Associates as the architect of record.

250 Fifth Avenue Addition Tops Out at 23 Stories in NoMad

The 23-story reinforced concrete structure at 250 Fifth Avenue has topped out in NoMad. The 230-foot-tall hotel tower is located along West 28th Street directly adjacent to an 111-year-old McKim, Mead & White-designed five-story building with a landmarked façade. PBDW Architects and Perkins Eastman are the designers of the addition, which is being developed by Flaneur Hospitality.

Ritz Carlton Hotel Quickly Rising at 1185 Broadway in NoMad

Construction on the Ritz Carlton Hotel at 1185 Broadway in NoMad has surpassed the podium levels and formation of the floor slabs for the main hotel portion is well underway. Located at the northern intersection of Broadway and West 28th Street, the reinforced concrete structure is set to rise 580 feet and yield 150,000 square feet of space and 250 guest rooms. The 40-story skyscraper is designed by Rafael Vinoly and developed by MarriottRitz Carlton Hotels, and Flag Luxury Properties. The interiors are being designed by Yabu Pushelberg.

Scaffolding Covers 137 Varick Street in Preparation for Disney’s Future Headquarters in Hudson Square

A large amount of scaffolding has been set up over the brick and stone walls of 137 Varick Street in Hudson Square in preparation for the building’s demolition. The site is one of several structures that will be cleared to make way for The Walt Disney Company’s new headquarters, which will be addressed Four Hudson Square and reportedly consist of a pair of 19-story buildings. Skidmore Owings & Merrill is the designer of the project and Skanska is in charge of the on-site construction activity.
