Ceruzzi Hopes To Begin Construction At 520 Fifth Avenue Next Spring

Developer Louis Ceruzzi has already begun demolition work at his property at 520 Fifth Avenue. We now know that construction will begin before New Years on the 71-story Handel Architects-designed tower, courtesy of an interview Ceruzzi gave to the Commercial Observer. In the interview, he also gave an update on his development at 147 East 86th Street. He said there is much work to be done relating to the Second Avenue Subway project, but real work should start in March.

Former Yuengling Brewery In Harlem Gets Landmarks Hearing

Prohibition nearly killed it, but time could destroy it. That’s the situation for the last remaining brewing complex in Manhattan. The former D.G. Yuengling Brewery Co. complex in Harlem is under consideration for landmark designation and a public hearing was held last Thursday. This complex is part of the Landmarks Preservation Commission’s 95-item backlog.

Three Historic Houses Considered at Landmarks Backlog Hearing

Last week, the Landmarks Preservation Commission held the fourth and final public hearing to deal with the 95 properties that have been under consideration for designation prior to 2010. Among the items discussed on Thursday were three houses, geographically spread from Kips Bay to Murray Hill to the Upper East Side. If designated as landmarks, they’ll certainly be referred to by many as historic houses. If not, their very existence will be put into doubt.

17-Story, 43-Unit Residential Building Tops Out At 20 East End Avenue, Upper East Side

Earlier this year, construction kicked off on the 17-story, 43-unit residential building planned at 20 East End Avenue, between East 80th and 81st Street on the Upper East Side, and now the structure has topped out, per photos by Tectonic. Residential units will average just under 3,300 square feet apiece, ranging from two- to six-bedroom configurations. Installation of the brick façade is now underway above the second floor, and the bottom two floors will eventually be clad in limestone. Corigin Real Estate Group is developing, Robert A.M. Stern Architects is designing, and completion is expected next year.
