The Frick Collection Taps New Architects for Expansion on the Upper East Side

The Frick Collection will again present expansion proposals to the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) in a hearing scheduled for Tuesday, May 29. Following widespread public outcry and eventual LPC disapproval in 2014, the new plans increase the building’s aboveground area by about 10 percent, relocate a portion of the collection below ground, create a new auditorium and visual entertainment areas, and increase accessibility for people in wheelchairs and mobility-impaired visitors.

Landmarked 954 Madison Avenue will Undergo Renovation for Carolina Herrera Flagship in Manhattan

The Landmarks Preservation Commission will soon consider renovation proposals for 954 Madison Avenue, a historic corner property on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Iconic fashion label Carolina Herrera commissioned the project, hoping to enlarge the existing Madison Avenue flagship location.

The Upper West Side isn’t home to much new development, but that hasn’t stopped the rise of 1865 Broadway, the most substantial structure currently nearing completion in the neighborhood. Now, the 33-story residential tower is finally starting to see its SOM-designed concrete paneling installed along the lower floors, and the result is proving an increasingly attractive addition to the cityscape.

New York-Presbyterian Opens David H. Koch Center on the Upper East Side

An enormous new healthcare center has opened its doors on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The 740,000 square foot structure is located between 68^th and 69^th Street, on York Avenue, and is the latest addition to the New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center campus. Three different design firms, HOK, Ballinger, and Pei Cobb Freed & Partners worked in collaboration for the project.
