Village officials have approved the redevelopment of the two-story movie theater at 321 Merrick Road, in Nassau County’s Lynbrook. The expanded structure will measure 70,000 square feet and have 15 screens. Blumenfeld Development Group and The Prusik Group are developing, and completion is expected in early 2017, according to Long Island Business News.
Developer iStar Financial and Coney Island USA have received the go-ahead to begin construction on the vacant but landmarked three-story, nearly 56,300 square-foot building at 3053 West 21st Street, on Coney Island. The structure and an adjacent vacant lot are being converted into a 90,000 square-foot complex featuring a 5,000-seat amphitheater. According to the Commercial Observer, a restaurant is also planned, and the $53 million project is expected to be finished by the middle of 2016.
Cammeby’s International Group has filed applications for a three-story commercial/community-facility building at 614-638 Sheepshead Bay Road and 2831-2843 West 8th Street, on Coney Island. The complex will have 46,350 square feet of community-facility space, and 41,600 square feet of commercial space, which includes retail and offices, according to the Schedule A. The entire building, mechanical space included, will measure roughly 155,600 square feet, and S9 Architecture & Engineering is designing. At No. 638, demolition has begun on an old single-story structure, and a two-story building currently exists at No. 614. A block to the east, the same developer is planning a 40-story mixed-use building at 532 Neptune Avenue.
Hotels are flocking to North Brooklyn’s industrial zone, but yesterday YIMBY noticed an unusual filing for a new artist studio building at 58 Grattan Street between Morgan and Knickerbocker Avenues in East Williamsburg.
Ahead of a vote that would allow casinos to operate in northern New Jersey, Paul Fireman is refining plans for a casino project, dubbed Liberty Rising, and located at 100 Caven Point Road, directly north of his golf course in southern Jersey City. According to The Wall Street Journal, a 90-story, 1,500-key luxury hotel is in the works, which would include a slew of restaurants and a theater.
