Robert A.M. Stern’s 54-Story 520 Park Avenue Takes Its Place on the Skyline

A quintet of new works by architect Robert A.M. Stern are making their mark on various parts of Manhattan, all with his signature style. 70 Vestry Street is in the early stages of construction; 30 Park Place, which includes the Four Seasons Downtown hotel, opened its doors in October; 20 East End Avenue could open this year; and 220 Central Park South is on the rise adjacent to Billionaires’ Row. Today, we check in on his skyscraping residential building at 520 Park Avenue.

The northwestern Bronx has become one of the few places in New York City where developers can build apartments relatively cheaply. Now prolific affordable developer Dunn Development has filed plans for a project in Norwood, a neighborhood just north of Bronx Park.

In February, Israeli-Russian billionaire Boris Kuzinez closed on the final piece of a three-property development site on Fifth Avenue in Midtown South for $59 million. Now, he’s filed plans for a 54-story condo building there, at 262 Fifth Avenue, on the corner of 29th Street.

YIMBY readers may be getting used to announcements of Long Island City superlatives, such as the tallest hotel in Queens nearing completion close to the borough’s tallest residence, which was recently surpassed by the city’s tallest apartment building outside of Manhattan. Even against these headlines, the complex rising at 28-10 Jackson Avenue, designed by SLCE Architects, takes scale to a new level. With over 1,900 units, 28-10 Jackson Avenue nearly doubles the offerings of the massive, 974-unit Hayden under development a few blocks west.

For years, YIMBY has been reporting on plans for a high-rise residential tower at 118 Fulton Street, between Nassau and Dutch streets in the Financial District. No building exists yet, but the design has apparently changed again, per on-site renderings posted to the YIMBY Forums.

Port Authority Reveals a Rendering, But Not a Developer, for Apartments Next to Lincoln Tunnel

The Port Authority has been struggling for years to develop two awkward lots next to the Lincoln Tunnel approach on the far West Side. The agency filed plans for a nine-story building at 431 West 33rd Street last fall, and now they’ve posted a rendering on the fence at the site between Ninth and 10th avenues.

It’s been a few months since we last checked in on the Robert A.M. Stern Architects-designed 116-unit residential project going up at 220 Central Park South. Back in February, the tower portion had risen to about 15 stories. Now, as seen in photos supplied to YIMBY by photographer Tectonic, the tower has risen past 25 stories, on its way to 70, with more of the Alabama Silver Shadow limestone cladding in place.

We’ve been telling you about plans for a 49-story, 122-unit residential tower at 131 East 47th Street, between Lexington and Third avenues in Midtown East, since mid-2015. Last month, those plans were officially filed with the Department of Buildings. Now, we have a new look at the project.
