35-Story, 67-Unit Mixed-Use Tower Rises Above Street Level At 200 East 59th Street, in Midtown East

Construction is now three stories above street level on the 35-story, 67-unit mixed-use tower under development at 200 East 59th Street, located on the corner of Third Avenue in Midtown East. The structure can be seen beginning to make its ascent skyward thanks to a photo posted to the YIMBY Forums. The 490-foot-tall tower will eventually encompass 109,581 square feet. Retail space, measuring 14,861 square feet, will span the cellar through second floors. The residential units, which will be condominiums, will be located on the third through 35th floors and average 1,490 square feet apiece. Macklowe Properties is the developer and CetraRuddy is behind the design. Completion is expected in late 2017.

The most prominent new development in the lower West 40s is obviously of the super-sized variety, with projects like 551 Tenth Avenue and 605 West 42nd Street now dominating the neighborhood. But there are a few smaller lots remaining that will host more modestly-sized buildings, and among those is 572 Eleventh Avenue, which used to house a diner. Now, YIMBY has the reveal for its replacement — which will span from 43rd all the way to 44th Street — designed by CetraRuddy, and under development by the Moinian Group.

YIMBY can now bring you news that foundation work is underway at 200 East 59th Street, at the corner of Third Avenue on the northern edge of Midtown East, courtesy of photos posted to the YIMBY Forums by Vertical_Gotham. It’s the site of a 35-story, 67-unit mixed-use building being developed by Macklowe Properties, which YIMBY recently revealed a full rendering for last week. As reported earlier, the 490-foot-tall tower will measure 109,581 square feet, of which 14,861 square feet will be utilized for retail space on the cellar through second floors. The apartments above, which will be condominiums, should average 1,490 square feet apiece. Amenities include storage for 36 bikes, a lounge, a terrace on the third floor, and a fitness center. CetraRuddy is behind the architecture. Completion is expected in late 2017.
