There’s a new skyscraper to look forward to in NoMad, Manhattan. Permits have been approved for the construction of the Rockefeller Group’s 639-foot-tall building at 30 East 29th Street. This news comes nearly four months after YIMBY obtained the building’s early renderings, with design by CetraRuddy.
Construction is well underway for what will eventually become the Financial District’s tallest residential tower, a 64-story supertall at 45 Broad Street. Thanks to a reader providing an overview photograph, we can see that trucks are currently removing debris from the site, and reports indicate that concrete trucks are also moving in and out, indicating that excavation is now in full swing. Drilling for the foundational piers has already started. Pizzarotti LLC is responsible for building and developing the tower, along with Madison Equities and AMS Acquisitions.
Construction is progressing quickly at 200 Amsterdam Avenue, where a 51-story, 668-foot tall skyscraper will soon rise. When first announced, the building was to become the tallest skyscraper on the Upper West Side. That title was lost when Extell announced plans for 50 West 66th Street, a particularly striking 775-foot tall residential building designed by Snøhetta. But even the area’s second-tallest is too much for local NIMBYs, and with excavation work on the project now making rapid headway, opponents have begun engaging in increasingly deranged efforts to hoist a wall of red-tape around the southern blocks of the Upper West Side.
The recently completed office-to-residential conversion of 180 Water Street has officially leased 95% of its residential units. Located in the Financial District, the Metro Loft-developed property only has 25 vacant apartments remaining.
Permits have been filed for another major parking facility at 1441 South Avenue, in Bloomfield, Staten Island. The development is connected to an office building designed by CetraRuddy. The site is disconnected from the Staten Island Railway. Two bus lines are the only public transport that connect the location with the rest of the borough. This explains the need for a massive parking garage like the one proposed. Nicotra Group will be responsible for the development.
