One of the largest new office projects in the Meatpacking District is finally taking shape. Rockpoint Group is knitting together historic warehouse buildings and new steel and glass at 412 West 15th Street, and photographer Tectonic has the latest on the site between Ninth and Tenth avenues.
A quintet of former hospital buildings in Upper Manhattan are on their way to becoming part of a residential development. On Tuesday, the Landmarks Preservation Commission approved alterations and infill for former parts of St. Luke’s Hospital, now known as Mount Sinai St. Luke’s, in Morningside Heights.
Construction is two stories above street level on a 62-story, 426-unit mixed-use tower under development at 242 West 53rd Street, in Midtown. Work is underway on the base of the building, as seen in photos posted to the YIMBY Forums. The latest building permits indicate the project will encompass 542,276 square feet and rise 674 feet to its roof, not including the bulkhead and other mechanical equipment. There will be 16,514 square feet of ground-floor retail space. The residential units above should average 1,024 square feet apiece, although it’s unclear whether they will be condominiums or rentals. Algin Management is the developer and CetraRuddy is behind the architecture. Completion is expected in 2018.

Four years ago, Chetrit Group paid $26.5 million for four lots on West 37th and West 38th Streets between 10th and 11th Avenues, near Hudson Yards and the Javits Center. Now Joseph Chetrit’s firm has filed applications for a 46-story, 622-foot-tall tower with a hotel and apartments there, at 545 West 37th Street.
