Renderings Revealed for Port Authority Bus Terminal Overhaul in Midtown, Manhattan

Last week, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) revealed a pair of renderings for its proposal to reconstruct Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown, Manhattan. The $10 billion project is being designed by Foster + Partners and will replace the rundown 74-year-old, 2.1-million-square-foot structure that spans two city blocks between Eighth and Ninth Avenues and West 40th and 42nd Streets. The bi-state agency submitted a draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) last Thursday to the Federal Transit Administration, which green-lit a 45-day public comment period. Four hearings will be held from February 20 to 22.

The tallest building on our year-end construction countdown is JPMorgan Chase‘s 1,388-foot supertall headquarters at 270 Park Avenue in Midtown East. Designed by Lord Norman Foster of Foster + Partners with Adamsom Associates as the architect of record and developed by Tishman Speyer, the 60-story skyscraper will yield 2.5 million square feet of office space with a capacity of 15,000 employees, and will become the tallest structure in New York completely powered by hydroelectric energy. AECOM Tishman is the general contractor for the full-block property, which is bound by East 48th Street to the north, East 47th Street to the south, Park Avenue to the east, and Madison Avenue to the west.

L&L Holding Company Unveil Large-Scale Artworks at 425 Park Avenue in Midtown, Manhattan

L&L Holding Company has unveiled a pair of prominent artworks at Norman Foster‘s 425 Park Avenue office skyscraper in Midtown East. The artworks now occupy the building’s jewel box triple-height lobby and show on a digital display on the three ornamental fins that crown the structure.

Demolition Nears Completion for PENN15 Supertall at 15 Penn Plaza in Midtown, Manhattan

Demolition is progressing toward street level on the Hotel Pennsylvania, which is being razed to make way for PENN15, a 1,200-foot commercial supertall at 15 Penn Plaza in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Foster + Partners and developed by Vornado Realty Trust, the 56-story skyscraper will yield 2.7 million square feet of office space and will stand as the centerpiece of the massive 7.4-million-square-foot Penn District master plan. Northstar Contracting Group is the demolition contractor for the Hotel Pennsylvania, which is located along Seventh Avenue between West 32nd and 33rd Streets.

Designed by Lord Norman Foster of Foster + Partners with Adamsom Associates as the architect of record and developed by Tishman Speyer, 70-story skyscraper will yield 2.5 million square feet of office space with a capacity of 15,000 employees, and will become the tallest structure in New York completely powered by hydroelectric energy. Adamson Associates is the architect of record, Banker Steel provided the steelwork, NYC Constructors is the steel subcontractor, Mueser Rutledge Consulting Engineers (MRCE) designed the structural foundation elements, Severud Associates is the engineer of record, R&R Scaffolding Ltd. will provide the BMU, New Hudson Facades is supplying the curtain wall, and AEOCOM Tishman is the general contractor for the property, which occupies a full city block bound by East 48th Street to the north, East 47th Street to the south, Park Avenue to the east, and Madison Avenue to the west.

Memorial Sloan Kettering Files Plans for 31-Story Skyscraper at 1233 York Avenue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side

Earlier this week, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) filed plans to construct the MSK Pavilion, a new 31-story inpatient hospital building at 1233 York Avenue in the Lenox Hill section of Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Designed in collaboration by CannonDesign and Foster + Partners, the structure could rise up to 594 feet tall and yield 900,000 square feet for inpatient clinical care (cancer care and surgery). The MSK Pavilion will replace an old building housing medical student residences and administrative offices on a plot bound by East 67th Street to the north, East 66th Street to the south, and York Avenue and Rockefeller University to the east.
