The New York City Public Housing Preservation Trust has selected Fifth Avenue Builders, LLC, as the design-build team for the modernization of Unity Towers, a 193-unit NYCHA development located at 2007 Surf Avenue in Coney Island, Brooklyn. The selection, approved by the Trust Board on June 10, marks a significant milestone in the renovation effort following residents’ August 2024 vote to join the Trust program. Fifth Avenue Builders is a joint venture between Urban Atelier Group and Camber Property Group.

1920 Turnbull Affordable Housing Tower Set To Begin Construction In Soundview, The Bronx

Construction is set to begin on the first phase of 1920 Turnbull, a 22-story affordable and supportive housing development at 1920 Turnbull Avenue in Soundview, The Bronx. Designed by Magnusson Architecture and Planning and developed by Gilbane Development, Strada Development LLC, and the Center for Urban Community Services (CUCS), the nearly $170 million building will contain 228 affordable rental apartments, including 137 permanent supportive housing units for formerly homeless individuals and families. The property is located between Pugsley Avenue and White Plains Road.

The Battery Park City Authority and Related Companies have reached an agreement to preserve and expand affordable housing at Tribeca Park, a 27-story residential building at 400 Chambers Street in Battery Park City, Manhattan. Designed by Robert A.M. Stern and Costas Kondylis and developed by Related Companies, the property contains 396 units. The deal, structured as an amendment to the building’s ground lease, will preserve 81 existing affordable apartments and create 20 additional affordable units, bringing the total number of income-restricted residences to 101, or approximately 25 percent of the building’s housing stock.

NYC Unveils Proposal For Upgraded Bus And Bicycle Infrastructure On Sixth Avenue In Manhattan

The New York City Department of Transportation has unveiled a proposal to upgrade bus and bicycle infrastructure along Sixth Avenue in Manhattan. The plan would add new offset bus lanes between Watts Street and West 34th Street, upgrade existing bus lanes from West 34th Street to West 58th Street, and widen protected bike lanes along much of the corridor. The improvements are intended to benefit more than 51,000 daily bus riders and enhance safety for cyclists and pedestrians on one of Manhattan’s busiest transportation corridors.

A $30 million capital improvement and repositioning program is now finished at 99 Park Avenue, a 600,000-square-foot Class A office tower in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Vocon and developed by Global Holdings, the project introduces a redesigned ground-floor experience, new tenant amenities, and upgraded interiors. The 26-story office tower is currently 97 percent leased, with recent tenants including Cerity Partners and Southern Land Company. The property is located between East 39th and 40th Streets.

The project will replace the existing New Utrecht Library with a new public library and more than 200 units of 100 percent affordable housing on the library site and an adjacent city-owned parking lot. The property is located between 18th Avenue and Bay 16th Street.

Freedom Village Completes Construction at 270 East 2nd Street in Manhattan’s East Village

Freedom Village, a new $54 million affordable housing development at 270 East 2nd Street in the Alphabet City section of Manhattan’s East Village, has officially opened. Designed by JCJ Architecture and developed by Barrier Free Living, the 13-story building contains 74 apartments for survivors of domestic violence and older adults who have experienced homelessness. The project replaces a former school building that had served as transitional housing for roughly three decades and marks a return to the site where Barrier Free Living was founded in 1981.
