At number six on our December countdown of the tallest buildings under construction in New York is The Brooklyn Tower, a 1,066-foot residential supertall at 9 DeKalb Avenue in Downtown Brooklyn. Designed by SHoP Architects and developed by JDS Development, the 93-story skyscraper stands as the tallest building in the outer boroughs that will yield 150 condominium units, 280 market-rate rentals, 120 affordable rentals, and a 100,000-square-foot retail podium incorporated into the renovated landmark Dime Savings Bank of Brooklyn. Douglas Elliman Development Marketing Group is the exclusive marketing, sales, and leasing agent for the residential component, which includes 150 units for purchase and 120 affordable rental units. Gachot Studios is the residential interior designer, Krista Ninivaggi of Woods Bagot is the amenity designer, and HMWhite is the landscape designer for the property, which is bound by Flatbush Avenue Extension to the northeast, Fleet Street to the northwest, DeKalb Avenue to the south, and the adjoining Dime Savings Bank to the west.

Exterior work has continued to progress on the lower levels since our last update in October, when the spired crown had recently wrapped up. Recent photos show more of the dark glass and metal paneling installed on the podium facing Flatbush Avenue Extension. The construction elevator remains attached to the northwest profile, but should begin disassembly once interior work comes to a close in the coming months.

The below renderings illustrate the final look of the podium and adjacent Dime Savings Bank. These lower levels will eventually be adorned with dynamic columns dubbed “Convexacave” by SHoP that transition from a conventional geometry at street level to a convex form at the top of the podium.

The Brooklyn Tower’s 120,000 square feet of indoor-outdoor amenities include a 24-hour attended lobby, a package valet, an in-house coffee stand, and a ride share lounge. The roof deck of the Dime Savings Bank will feature a 75-foot-long lap pool, a kids pool, a whirlpool, sundecks, a hammock lounge, and outdoor dining area with barbecue grills and a fire pit. The pools will surround the Guastavino dome, accompanied by a double-height poolside lounge with shuffleboard and a cocktail bar, a chef’s kitchen with a private dining room, and a living room lounge with group and private seating areas.

The podium will also house a Life Time Athletic Club with a fitness center and barre, cycle, pilates, and yoga studios. The facility will offer group fitness and private training, and feature a recovery space with chiropractic services and a LifeCafe restaurant. Entertainment and recreational amenities include a children’s playroom with a pantry, a screening room with a wet bar, a billiards room with a bar, and a library lounge with co-working spaces, conference rooms, and a private meeting room.

On the 66th floor is a Sky Park with an open-air loggia that includes a basketball court. The 85th floor houses a Sky Lounge with multiple lounges, bars, and an outdoor fireplace with panoramic views of New York City.

The Brooklyn Tower is on track to reach completion in the first half of 2023.

I don’t try to mix photos into renderings show how the beautiful supertall nears completion, look around the pool below floors of the taller. On the light blue waters contrast dark exterior to witness, and a row of closely spaced that over its edge so heavenly crown: Thanks to Michael Young.

One of the most beautiful buildings ever built.

  3. I usually don’t use the word “awesome” as it is heavily overused and misused. However, with Brooklyn Tower, I cannot deny its awesomeness.

  4. Amazing building
    A renaissance for Brooklyn
Would love a tour of the building..

The most wonderful new tower in all of New York City.
BTW Yimby, please stop calling it “The” Brooklyn Tower as the rendering proves, it is named Brooklyn Tower.
    Thank you.

    • But their Instagram is @thebrooklyntower and they even capitalize “The” mid-sentence on SHoP’s website on The Brooklyn Tower, so Yimby is correctly titling it

    • Even the main website for The Brooklyn Tower has the word “The” in front every time

    • David in Bushwick—I hear you! But nobody says, “I want to see Chrysler Building!” People say _the_ (or _The_) Chrysler Building! It’s really just semantics, how people actually speak!

But as for the building—that’s the best crown in town! 👑

  7. Beautiful, Gorgeous, Magnificent. Not Enough Adjectives 2 Describe Magnificent Beauty Of This Building

    • This turned out wonderfully. Only thing I wish were different is the corner entrance (third pic from the bottom). I wish there was some sort of 3 story art deco bass relief above the entrance doors or perhaps a copper or gold sculptural grating over the windows instead of a plain bay of glass. But that nit pic aside, this buildings is truly iconic. Bravo!

  8. Need millions to get an apartment and crypto is dead.
Anyone have a rich in law ? Lol

Another waste of development for just a few.,

  9. We are not talking about social side of the new development, just praising the achievement of the Architectural team and the beautiful result.

  10. Quite the achievement. May have been inspired by the Wrigley Bldg. in Chicago
