Construction is now above street level on 550 West 21st Street, a 23-story residential building in West Chelsea, Manhattan. Developed by Legion Investment Group and AVRS Partners LP, which took over from Casco Development, the 250-foot-tall structure will span up to 172,000 square feet and yield 83 condominium units. The nearly 0.5-acre project site is located at the corner of West 21st Street and the Hudson River Greenway.
Construction is complete on the new landscaped public plaza at One High Line, a two-tower residential development at 500 West 18th Street in Chelsea, Manhattan. The park sits to the east of the twisting 36- and 26-story structures and was designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro and Field Operations in a private-public partnership between the City of New York and Friends of the High Line. Suffolk Construction was the general contractor. The towers, designed by Bjarke Ingels Group for Witkoff Group and Access Industries, are also complete and span around 900,000 square feet with 236 condominium units in one- to five-bedroom layouts. The property also includes a Faena Hotel. The development is alternately addressed as 76 Eleventh Avenue and straddles the High Line on a trapezoidal plot bounded by West 18th Street to the north, West 17th Street to the south, Tenth Avenue to the east, and West Street to the west.
New plans have been revealed for a forthcoming park at 143 West 14th Street in Chelsea, Manhattan. Developed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which owns the through-block parcel that also contains a five-story building at 144 West 15th Street, the park will replace a vacant lot between two wall murals. The property is located between Sixth and Seventh Avenues.
Vanderbilt University has received approval from the New York State attorney general to move forward with the lease of its new campus in Chelsea, Manhattan. The 99-year lease agreement, signed last fall with The General Theological Seminary, allows Vanderbilt to operate on a 2.7-acre site encompassing 13 buildings in a historic section of West 20th Street.
