Directly across the street from Bloomingdale’s, 143-155 East 60th Street, or 151 East 60th Street, was supposed to give rise to a residential supertall on the southern edge of the Upper East Side. The assemblage has seen impressive design proposals released by both Archillier Architecture and Kohn Pedersen Fox. Demolition of six low-rise buildings began in the summer of 2017, after permits were filed. However, since then, activity has come to a grinding halt, and it appears that the site is the latest casualty of New York City’s Chinese-led development bust.
On the Upper East Side of Manhattan, at the intersection of 86th St and Lexington Avenue, construction on the 21-story residential tower at 151 East 86th Street is making major headway. Designed by HOK Architects and developed by Kuafu Properties, Stillman Development, and Ceruzzi Properties, the project will offer 61 condominiums ranging from two- to five-bedrooms.
Back in 2015, YIMBY revealed the renderings for a new development coming to the corner of 86th Street and Lexington Avenue, with an official address of 147 East 86th Street. In February of 2016, building applications were filed for the site, and now, demolition is complete on the old Petco, paving the way for construction to begin on the project.
The huge MiMA residential building, designed by Arquitectonica, opened in Hell’s Kitchen in 2011. Its 500 rental units stretching up to the 49th floor were topped with a further 151 units across 13 more floors. Those luxury units were known as One MiMA Tower, and they opened in 2012. Now, they are undergoing a change, and YIMBY got the first look inside.
This past summer, YIMBY revealed renderings of the planned 18-story, 63-unit mixed-use building planned at 147 East 86th Street (a.k.a 1289 Lexington Avenue), on the Upper East Side. Now its developers – Ceruzzi Properties, Kuafu Properties, and Stillman Development – have filed applications with the Department of Buildings. The new building will span 229,751 square feet in total, and the cellar through the second floors will contain 26,718 square feet of commercial space. The NY Sports Club is expected to occupy two floors in the building. The third floor will contain residential amenity space, featuring lounge spaces, a children’s playroom, and a gym. The condominium units, ranging from two- to five-bedrooms and averaging 2,800 square feet apiece, will also begin on the third floor.
